Much of the technological and medical advances we see in Star Trek look like miracles to us but "Statistical Probabilities" explores the down sides of advances, particularly in relationship to genetic engineering (the ban on which is frequently a contentious issue on this board). There's a good point made that people who struggle to "fit" into society can make positive contributions if they allowed to do so. I wish some real life people would recognise the dangers of being too fond of statistical models...

A very strong opener, indeed. But shouldn't Tuvok keep his "approximation" to mere months instead? The writers missed an opportunity for a bit of humor, though the trope had been played out before, so for them to not "go there" isn't a bad thing.

Plus, he's the best one year-old ever, going by that candle count. Of course, 300 candles might constitute just a tiny fire hazard and this isn't that one TNG episode with the fire suppression fields that go off at any hint of hotness, and yet Riker-- wait, what's going on again? Oh yeah, Kes comes aboard and makes a big boom-boom in the corridor. Oh, I did write "fire hazard" before finding the clip so I'm the better Vulcan, ha-ha. (or not, but that's obvious, hehe...)

I am going to save the last of the Dominion War arc stories - "Sons and Daughters". Worf is both over-protective and impatient with Alexander who is both seeking Worf's approval and feeling rejected by him. It takes Martok to explain the situation and the House of Martok provides a Klingon home for Alexander as it does for Worf. Meanwhile the obsensibly loving father of Tora Ziyal, Gu Dukat, is prepared to use his daughter as a tool. Interesting contrast in parenting techniques!

I'm going to save TNG's "Tapestry". It does have a few issues, like how Picard becomes suicidal at the thought of never getting promoted, and how its message of 'don't regret the bad choices you've made as they're the reason you are who you are' is subverted by Picard not accepting the bad choice he's made and going back to get stabbed instead, but it's just a really good story.
