Game The Most Disliked Seventh Season Episode, 2025 Edition

THE OBJECTIVE: A sudden-death elimination game in which we remove our personal favorite episodes/movies from a themed list, until we arrive at the episode that is, if not the worst, at least the most disliked.

It's a framework to say positive things about episodes from across the franchise.

THE RULES: Below is a list of the 7th season episodes of every Trek show to run that long - TNG, DS9, and VOY.

Eliminate/save your favorite, or the one you deem the ‘best' of what currently remains.
Post something you enjoy about the episode you are saving, and copy-and-paste the list with your choice removed.

You can use any standard you like to judge which option is "best." You can save episodes for being widely recognized “best Trek” classics, or for idiosyncratic qualities that no one appreciates but you.

As you get down the list, you might have to reach more and more for something to enjoy about an episode, and it's OK to eventually save episodes for being "less bad."

But -- no tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you don’t think anyone else will, or because you feel it would threaten your preferred episode's chance to “win.”

You can take multiple turns.

Leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

New players are always welcome. You do not have to already be a "most disliked game" regular to dive in.

Last time we played this, I kicked us off with a save for the most timeless classic of all the great Trek episodes - "Sub Rosa"! And (despite a brief temptation to make the DS9 finale my first save instead), I'm going to do it again.

Yes, I know everyone hates it, but I adore it and have watched it approximately eleventy billion times. And it never lets me down. There is no other episode on this list that I've seen even 5% as many times.

Ghosts, weird romanticism, intensely committed acting, freaky plot twists, orgasm candles - this episode has it all!

A random complaint about "Picard" - I got so annoyed when they explained Jack's accent being a result of him attending school in London on Earth. Not so far from where retired Picard was just chilling in a vineyard! It made Beverly look so shitty.

And the fix is so obvious - tell us they were out in deep space on Planet London, just like "Sub Rosa" had Planet Scotland!

I was talking about this episode a little earlier in an architecture/interior design thread, so there's a bit of recency bias, but I do genuinely enjoy DS9: "Prodigal Daughter". As well as the Tigan family home's striking design, I enjoy the soap opera mystery storyline - made even better by the characters (poor Norvo ) - and anything featuring Ezri and/or Trill is a win for me!

Saving It's Only a Paper Moon. This one is from the heart! It shows different elements of suffering and compasion. It tries to take a realistic look at trauma without blaming or shaming. The little bit of film criticism (no blood) is awesome. We see Rom, Nog and Leeta as a family. The boardroom scene is hysterical.

You all have saved so many of the ones I would save. But there are still some great ones left, like my first save here... "TREACHERY, FAITH AND THE GREAT RIVER".

What could be better than having Weyoun in an episode? Have TWO Weyouns! Beautiful story, and how he died... Kira was right to point out he was lucky to die having whom he considered one of his gods smiling on him.

And the Nog story... superb use of him, and we get a wonderful look at Ferengi culture that is NOT profit based. Possibly the best showing of their belief system to date.


This was an excellent episode. Bradley Thompson and David Weddle's best episode of DS9.

"Attached" is a recent rediscovery for me. Until the last few years, I had no idea it was fantastic! I didn't like it as a kid and then took decades to try it again. I think I had to be an actual adult to appreciate this great exploration of the Crusher/Picard dynamic. Probably some of the best material for Beverly in all of TNG? If not the best? (I mean obviously the craziness of "Sub Rosa" is very dear to me, but you know what I mean...)

Saving Body and Soul. I'm no Jeri Ryan fanboy. She did well with the part of 7 of 9 during Voyager, but I find her acting to be rather one-note ever since. However, the episode is pure comedy. I love the attention to detail to Robert Picardo's performance and the willingness to go full into somewhat creepy humor. She showed dedication.

I've come to love it for what it is and it didn't really need a bonus episode.

Going back to show everyone hugging and saying "I missed you" would have been too much and there's already enough parallels between this and TNG episodes being templates that fans would gripe about. It's not like TNG redid TOS or TNG tropes, or DS9 using TNG ideas in a different way (e.g. "Starship Down" > "Disaster"), etc, anyhow. Just make it feel original and that's what counts most.

The alternate-future timeline was compelling (esp. Tuvok), and Janeway's journey as future-self as well is no less refreshing.

There are some plot motifs and tropes that "All Good Things" use, but it still feels original in this VOY finale. And VOY needed it, as some of the latter-era Borg escapades were incredibly bad.

Alice Krige still steals the show as the most debated character in Trek history, the Borg Queen, makes an appearance.

Plus, that final twist where they were coasting within the Borg sphere to protect from the portal explosion was really good.

So, yeah, of this list and I checked it twice, this one's an easy save.
