Rene Auberjonois/Star Trek VI question?

Garak007

You could put this question outside the realms of Star Trek to but because Rene Auberjonois is in Star Trek VI I will ask the question here.

I did not know of Rene Auberjonois before DS9 and only noticed him in Star Trek VI after going back from DS9. He plays a bit part as Colonel West and is the Assisan killed at the end. Why is he uncredited for this role according to IMDB? I seen him in a few movies before Star Trek VI so he was a known actor so still the fact remains why was was uncredited? What does uncredited mean in the movie world apart from your name not showing up on the credits? There must be something more to it in this case as Rene did play (even it was a bit part) an important part of the story.

Lots of actors, some of them very famous, go uncredited for playing bit parts in movies. Sometimes, they do this because they are contractually obligated to appear in a film they don't really want to be associated with. Other times, they don't want their big name to overpower a low-budget, independent film (they may sometimes take these roles for Hollywood "street cred" or simply because they really believe in them). In this case, I would say it's probably that he was a fan of the franchise and wanted to appear in it somewhere without making a big deal. If you get Benson reruns in your area, he was good for a chuckle on that.

I would believe that, but Auberjonois received credit as the main villain in Police Academy 5. I don't think he'd want to go uncredited in a film that starred Christopher Plummer :)

That being said, I'll go with Laser Beam, too.

Lead in Police Academy 5 vs. bit part in Star Trek 6? HAHA!!

Well, here's one thing to be said about Auberjonois compared to pretty much all of the primary Police Academy casts over the years combined: he's still got a career.

Auberjonois was just wonderful in M*A*S*H (the film), Bensen, and Boston Legal. I'm certainly a fan of his work.

There's also Christopher Lee, who also was a lead in a a Police Academy film, was a bit player in Return of the King (scenes deleted) and Revenge of the Sith (scenes remarkably intact), and he's still a living legend nonetheless. If it's good enough for Christopher Lee, it's good enough for Auberjonois :)

Whoopi Goldberg chose to go uncredited in "Star Trek Generations", because an Academy Award-winner in a substantial supporting role would have overshadowed her good friend Patrick Stewart, starring in his first movie as a top-billed actor. Using Academy protocols, Whoopi should have had top billing. She decided to "waive billing", against her agent's advice, IIRC.

She also chose to waive billing for her cameo role in "Nemesis".

She won the Academy Award for Supporting Actress in one of my favorite movies: Ghost. My wife and I have an inside joke relating to this: she didn't change her legal name immediately after we married, so sometimes she would sign the wrong name on forms and I'd have to point it out to her!! :guffaw:

^ I do seem to recall him giving the briefing for 'Operation Retrieve'. It was only the revelation that he was the assassin that was cut.

Surely he still plays the Presidential assassin in the theatrical version, though we're led to believe he's an actual Klingon.

Maybe. Maybe not. It may not actually be Rene under that mask. It is, in the scene where the mask is removed, but for most of the previous scene it could be a different actor (for example, the stuntman who does the fall). We have no idea. Since it looks like it is a full face mask, it could literally be anybody.

I think you're right but don't call him Shirley.

Great, now I got an image of Rene playing Captain Oveur... :guffaw:

or how about *Odo* as Oveur:

"Constable, how soon till the Bajoran transport ship docks?"
"I can't tell."
"You can tell me, I'm Captain Sisko."
"No, I mean I'm not sure."
"Can't you take a guess?"
"...well, not for another two hours."
"You can't take a guess for another two hours?"

"Jake...do you like movies about Jem'Hadar gladiators?"

(comm) "Constable Odo, report to Ops immediately. Constable Odo, report to Ops immediately."
"I'VE GOT IT!"
"Thank you."
