Why can't they write Star Trek like...

It’s close, but not quite there. Too much silliness with the “big risk” episodes, and the characters are hit-or-miss. I love the series so far, but it’s not in the same neighborhood as some of the previous era stuff.

I hope to see it mature in the next two seasons.
All hits with me. Love the "silliness".

My wife recently got a three month trial of Apple TV. We started watching 'For All Mankind'

THIS is how Star Trek should be written. I urge Trek fans to try out this show. It's so good. It features characters exploring, it features real science and, honestly, it's quite utopian.
...in a world where the global space race never ended.

DS9 certainly had its share of silliness, and I'm not just referring to the Ferengi comedy episodes. Even the typical episode of DS9 could be relied on to provide some genuine laughs and despite its reputation as being the "Dark Trek" it might easily be the funniest of the 90s shows, or the entire Berman era. Hell, before Lower Decks came along, it might have been the funniest Trek series, period. Tawny Newsome certainly seems to think so, given she has described DS9 as something like "Star Trek's first sitcom."

I agree. Humor is great, especially if it is organic to the characters and story.

By “silliness” I meant more the wild risk-taking episodes like the musical.

A great episode and a different spin on the anomaly of the week.
