DS9 Questions!

It makes sense to me that the Defiant would be relatively small. As long as they can support their weapons systems, a smaller ship is quicker to maneuver and accelerate and more effective.

WW II battleships were huge to make a stable platform for the big ship's guns that had range in many miles. Aircraft carriers were huge to make a useable flight deck. Now that guided missiles have much longer range than WW II guns as well as more accurate, the case for the battleship is gone. Galaxy classes are big for lots of science labs and a big crew to make a 5-year mission more tolerable, but they're not as good at fighting as a Defiant.

You don't feel the acceleration due to gravity, but matter still has momentum and takes time and energy to turn just like it does on earth.

True, but we're not talking about large masses like planets, moons, asteroids. We're talking about say the Runabout vs. Defiant and say the Defiant or Voyager vs. the Enterprise-D. Really, the Ent-D should be very fast and maneuverable. It might not be able to slam on the breaks, but it should easily be able to use thrusters to pull a spin, blast impulse, and turn around on a time, essentially.

Really? That's kind'a cool that they had large pieces of DS9 for close up shots.

Well, they already had the rear section (with the aft windows) from TNG's "Timescape" just before the S6 finale. DS9 could have used this set for 6 of 7 seasons as the back compartment of the Runabout, but they never did. Ah well, at least we got to see it on screen once so we know what those windows in the back represent - a small crew lounge!

Well, never seen that cross-section before. The extra toilet area is definitely new, and the mid-section very different from prior cutaways.

Is this a reconstruction based on compiled sets, or is it from some other BTS source?

#3 TNG and VOY had a lot of episodes where the ship was destroyed numerous times over. Time travel, parallel universe, holodeck, it was all a dream, Q fantasy, something. I seem to remember DS9 only did this trope exactly once. Naturally, it's an O'Brien-must-suffer episode. I think this was S2? Was this the only time DS9 did this fun trope?

#6 How would you describe the setting of the show? DS9 or DS9 and the Defiant? No right or wrong answer, just curious.

Well, assuming for the moment that the answer to #6 is 'DS9 and the Defiant', the answer to #3 would be that they did it at least twice. After all, the Defiant is destroyed in S7e20, The Changing Face of Evil

I'm not really sure where I stand with #3 myself, tough. I think I would classify DS9 as the primary setting, and the Defiant as a secondary one, much like scenes that play on, e.g. Bajor.

Maybe there's a Discovery-sized turbolift funhouse back there.

Maybe it's a holodeck so they won't be bored on long trips and can make as many beds as they need.
