A STNG show, or Titan? Serialized or no?

If there is an announcement of a new STNG style show or a show in its era, would you want it serialized? I thought of this the other day because I feel a ST show will eventually be on the air, and a lot of the shows on TV I've been reviewing/viewing are serialized to some degree. Personally, I LIKED the individual episodes a lot...but I'd like to see some mini-arc episodes, somewhat like late DS9 or Enterprise. I find that I prefer to watch the single episodes more often than having to rewatch whole seasons. Its also easier for random fans to watch the show..I actually feel the serialized drama has--in part--caused a loss of viewership in TV over the years for this reason.

There are ways of introducing "arcs" whilst still allowing for the episodes to "stand-alone". This was something that TNG was always good at. Doctor Who does it these days too. You can watch the episodes individually and enjoy them, but you get more out of them if you know the history.

I would like to see something like that.

I'd like to see further development of the format used in Enterprise's fourth season: storylines ranging in length from one to three episodes, as long as needed to tell each story.

Beyond that, I think the best approach in general is a balance of episodic and serial elements. Each story should be strong enough to stand on its own, but the stories should have consequences and there should be continuing threads connecting them. TNG and DS9 did this well.

I agree..a slight expansion of the format to DS9 levels, while still allowing excellent stand-alones seems ideal. That's pretty much what I was hoping to see the general opinion was about. I think if they follow this format with some modern film-making style, and quicker pacing, a 21st century ST show would do really well.

The thing I always found with TNG that I didn't like was the fact that 39 minutes would be dedicated to the main story "Here's the problem, what are we going to do to solve it", and the resolution was always in the final 3 minutes. Sometimes it was in the final 1 minute and seemed too abrupt.

So the idea of something being solved over multiple episodes sounds good.

Veronica Mars would be my ideal style. Have a story to tell over the course of a season, but have it act as almost a B-plot while bringing it out into the forefront every now and then. Throughout the season do a bunch of stand alone episodes or two parters. That way you're obligated to have continuity and character growth, while still giving the viewer to jump in week to week. For good measure put on a healthy "Last Time on Star Trek" at the beginning of every episode.

Only because they didn't want to use TIT.

Now who wouldnt want to use one of those?
You're just looking forward to the obligatory two-parter.

A Titan series would be rather nice, since the books returned to the idea of actual exploration instead of simply blowing stuff up on a weekly basis to appeal to the lowest common denominator (DS9, VOY, ENT, TNG movies)
