S4 "Data's Da's (just watched)

Admiral Jean-Luc Picard

Commodore
Commodore
I think I've seen "Data's Day" before, a popular TNG episode, but watch it on Blu-ray, it felt like a first watch. Did this episode introduce both Keiko and Data's cat? Why is Data's cat nor orange? I feel like they've been on the show before, unless I'm just remembering them appearing in later episodes. The Ambassador-class starship makes its 2nd appearance after the Enterprise-C "Yesterday's Enterprise!" It was only in one shot, but at least it wasn't an Excelsior, Miranda, or Orbeth. I always loved it when the various shows did a character-POV episode like this one. That's what's frustrating about these streaming-era mini-seasons. When you only do 10 episodes, you can't really do an episode like "Data's Day." That Data dance smile gave me serial killer vibes. When Dr. Crusher got called to sickbay, she couldn't run out of the holodeck fast enough. :guffaw:

A genuinely really liked this episode. Next up, "The Wounded," the introduction to the Cardassians!!!

It's a fun comic relief episode, with a twist, but something has always stuck out -- How could Data be fooled by the Romulan spy? (If only Wesley were still on board...)

2:43 feels like a dead giveaway, given the Vulcans and Federation has an alliance and likely share such information. Never mind the obvious reaction by the suddenly emotional Vulcan whose name is also not "Sybok", a difference Data couldn't possibly not know about?

I just assumed Data was preoccupied with thinking too much this episode.

"Data's Da"

That's a funny typo. Where's Soong?!

Not sure, but here's da song -- contraction and all!

I knew the episode introduced Keiko, which, in my opinion, was probably the worst possible way to introduce Keiko if they wanted anyone to like her. I personally don't mind the character but I know a lot of people don't like her all too much and this introduction is probably to blame. I did not know this was the episode that introduced Spot and I am mildly suprised.

Spot is not orange because over the course of the show he has been played by six different cats and a lizard.

I always liked Keiko, but on DS9, sometimes I wish she'd just chill out and time her marriage fights a little better. Let Miles snooze on the couch for a bit, bring the man some ice cream. Save the fight for later.

Why didn't they keep the original cat for Spot? Maybe it was easier to change out the cat with an orange calico?

Agreed about Keiko. I mean, literally her introduction to the franchise was something of that sort.

The first cat to play Spot had a tedency to misbehave. That's probably why they switched it out. Why they changed it to a tabby, I don't know. It would likely have been just as easy to keep him a Somali.

I always loved that Spot was so chill with Data, yet the ENTERPRISE bridge crew were terrified of it like it was some alien beast. Spot even flashed Riker's face. I think Data spoiled his kitty too much, a true cat owner. In a deleted scene from Nemesis...
Worf and Geordi are going through Data's quarters to pack up his belongings. Geordi finds the emotion chip. Spot jumps into Worf's arms. Worf tells Geordi he is NOT a cat person. Geordi, "You are now." Given Spot the Terror and how things tend to get dumped on Worf, this was a very TNG scene.
