Am I crazy for saying that TNG is the best show of ALL time of any TV show ever?

I don't know about crazy, but I certainly disagree with any claim that any Star Trek series (even my beloved DS9) is the best show of ALL time.

Of the TV series I've seen and can readily recall, I think I might give that honor to Six Feet Under, but it's such a subjective superlative in any case; I don't really feel like there's any way to call anything the best of anything, and I haven't watched enough TV to make any sort of objective analysis in any case. If you like it, awesome, but why imply that everything else is somehow inferior, or that anyone who disagrees with you is missing something you see?

But, FWIW, here's Variety's take on the question as of last year: https://variety.com/lists/greatest-tv-shows-of-all-time/. TNG does place at #44 out of 100, and it's the only Trek installment on the list...but hey, they rate it higher than SFU, so there you go.
wow, that is an absolutely ATROCIOUS list for top 100. Dayum.

The thing about lists of this nature is that you're not going to find any consensus other than broad consensus that X show appears on a bunch of them. "Best" is a matter of opinion.

And really, people should care a lot more about whether they enjoy a TV show than whether other people do. Critics can give you more insight into a show and make you appreciate it more, and one can argue that their opinions may be more "valid" based on their background (e.g. I wouldn't dispute that Roger Ebert knew more about film than I ever will), but I've never understood when people come here to tell other people whether a series is good or not (beyond their own opinion).

If you enjoy it, awesome. If you don't enjoy it, also awesome. Either way, if you feel a need to try to convince other people how they should feel, maybe you need to spend some time thinking about why that's so important to you.

TNG was my first love. I was obsessed. It shaped my life from the age of 9. I will always love it.

But I have to admit... DS9 came in and stole my heart. Which is ironic as I hated DS9 at first purely on the account it wasn't TNG.

Oh, I'd never try to convince how they should feel and I apologize if I ever implied that. To each their own! :)

TNG is awesome, but the best show of all time is clearly Knight Rider. And if you disagree with me, you are just wrong.

If it was me, I would substitute "favorite" for "best," since nobody can argue that TNG is clearly your favorite TV show of all time.

And, honestly, I find people's favorites more interesting and idiosyncratic than trying to establish what is literally "best."

I guess I'm alone in this boat eh? Lol. All good. :)

You're not alone. I happen to agree TNG is the greatest TV show of all time (although Strange New Worlds is insanely good, and I like what I've seen of it better, but it is a lot less content and so far we haven't seen the whole show yet so I have to reserve judgement until the finale).

Now for something controversial which is just my opinion, but I honestly can't fathom a diehard Trekkie ever not thinking their favorite Trek show is the best TV show of all time. I don't want to risk sounding like a gatekeeper or ruffling up feathers, but if your favorite Star Trek show isn't also your favorite show altogether, are you even really a Trekkie, or are you just a casual fan?

I guess that when it comes to subjective entertainment, the difference between 'favourite' and 'best' is that you're trying to judge it on other factors than how much it entertained/intrigued/moved you (etc.), and at that point it's like trying to judge a cake on the quality of its ingredients instead of how good it tasted to you.

There's room in my heart for lots of TV shows! Especially ones about spaceships.

Oh, I love Star Trek. TOS is my favorite show of all time. Love the Trek franchise. There are better made programs, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

TOS absolute DIE HARD my entire life - but if I had to pick my favorite show, multiple seasons, storyline, ending style, I would have to say Fringe.....

Being a Trekkie doesn't mean forsaking all other fandoms, hobbies, and interests. People can be avid fans of more than one thing. Indeed, I assume most people are.

I've been a hardcore Trekkie my entire life. I'm also a Planet of the Apes fan, a Xena fan, a Marx Bros. fan, a Stephen Sondheim fan, a comic-book fan, a horror fan, etc.

As I like to joke, I love STAR TREK, but I'm not married to it. I can see other series. :)

So, you have an open fandom.
