Call the DTI

Laura Cynthia Chambers

Vice Admiral
Admiral
When else do you suppose the DTI might have paid our main characters a visit?

I was thinking in the aftermath of "The Sound Of Her Voice", even though technically nothing the DS9 crew did affected anyone but Cusak and themselves.

One assumes that regulations dictated a debriefing with Starfleet personnel involved after each and every temporal event when they occurred since the inception of the DTI.

Obviously the DTI has no way of knowing of the existence of the Kelvin timeline as such (since the Prime timeline wasn't affected), but I wonder if they could find out anything regarding the fate of Nero and Spock Prime.

The Kelvinverse version of the DTI, though, may have some investigating to do...

They may come into being a lot sooner than the prime timeline's does, by lit standards. Probably would be birthed as a direct result of Nero's incursion. Ooooh, I wonder if they'll figure into the 4th Kelvinverse film then regarding George Kirk's re-emergence...

Not sure if "fell into a black hole" comes under their purview

^ Assuming the (Prime universe) DTI even knows that happened at all. If the black hole 'closed up' and left no evidence behind, then there's no way anyone will ever know Nero and Spock Prime's fates.

Somehow I imagine Janeway probably had to spend an entire month dealing with a board of top DTI people reviewing all the temporal stuff Voyager was involved in for seven years. Just Endgame itself probably spent an entire week.

Is reporting such instances retroactive? How long has the DTI been around and who is under their authority? Archer? Kirk?

Does Picard encountering Kirk in Generations qualify for a visit by DTI?

Encountering Kirk? No. Picard did not intentionally enter the Nexus, nor did Kirk. They were both "trapped" there, in a manner of speaking.

Leaving together to change the past...that might be a different story...but a minor one at best.

I she responsible for altering history in Endgame? I know the 29th century timecops woud see it that way, but DTI thinks in such "3 dimensional terms." She couldn't help it that an old lady named Admiral Janeway came and brought her home.

Right. Admiral Janeway would be the one in trouble, not Captain Janeway.

Does intent matter? Sisko did not intend to get involved in the Bell Riots, either. Pretty much every temporal incident was unintended.

Yeah, but as the DTI consists of officious bureaucrats, I'm sure they'd gleefully waste a week or so trying to determine if she had any responsibility, with a heavy bias towards blaming her regardless the facts.

Wow, that makes me sound like I have an issue with bureaucrats, doesn't it?
