Game The Most Disliked Jeffrey Combs Appearance, 2025 Edition

Saving "PROVING GROUND".

Good episode in the season 3 arc. And we really see Shran struggle between his duty to his people and his feelings of loyalty and friendship for Archer. Loved it!

And it gets a save on this alone...

"The Andorian Mining Consortium runs from no one."

DS9 Season 3: "Meridian" (Tiron)
DS9 Season 6: "Statistical Probabilities" (Weyoun 5, Weyoun Hologram)
DS9 Season 6: "Profit And Lace" (Brunt)
DS9 Season 7: "Shadows And Symbols" (Weyoun 5
ENT Season 1: "Shadows Of P'Jem" (Shran)
ENT Season 2: "Cease Fire" (Shran)
ENT Season 4: "Kir'Shara" (Shran)
ENT Season 4: "The Aenar" (Shran)

Shadows and Symbols nicely concluded the season premiere, and also had the epic visuals of the Sisko family traversing the sand.

It was also nice to see Benny Russell again.

Saving "Meridian" (Tiron) and you can't stop me. This is a Jeffrey Combs list, and this episode brought Jeffrey Combs into Trek with a wonderfully slimy character. His whole b story is wonderful.

DS9 Season 6: "Statistical Probabilities" (Weyoun 5, Weyoun Hologram)
DS9 Season 6: "Profit And Lace" (Brunt)
ENT Season 1: "Shadows Of P'Jem" (Shran)

ENT Season 4: "Kir'Shara" (Shran)
ENT Season 4: "The Aenar" (Shran)

I have saved "Statistical Probabilities" in previous games and am saving it again for the same reasons. I liked it showing that all kinds of people can made positive contributions if they are allowed, and that it is possible to ve over-trusting of statistical models.

DS9 Season 6: "Profit And Lace" (Brunt)
ENT Season 1: "Shadows Of P'Jem" (Shran)
ENT Season 2: "Cease Fire" (Shran)
ENT Season 4: "Kir'Shara" (Shran)
ENT Season 4: "The Aenar" (Shran)

"MERIDIAN", while not that good, at least had Combs' story be that episode's saving grace. "THESE ARE THE VOYAGES...", though... genuinely shocked it got saved a while back. But such is the way of these games... full of twists and turns.

Saving "THE AENAR".

The last appearance of the real Shran. It was a good story, and it was what gave us Hemmer from SNW.

DS9 Season 6: "Profit And Lace" (Brunt)
ENT Season 1: "Shadows Of P'Jem" (Shran)
ENT Season 2: "Cease Fire" (Shran)
ENT Season 4: "Kir'Shara" (Shran)

"Cease Fire" is a brief oasis in the brutal desert of Enterprise season 2. One of the tiny handful of episodes that season (the franchise's absolute low point) that even rise to the level of watchable.

DS9 Season 6: "Profit And Lace" (Brunt)
ENT Season 1: "Shadows Of P'Jem" (Shran)
ENT Season 4: "Kir'Shara" (Shran)

I am always rooting for "Profit & Lace" to win every list it's on.

Maybe a "most liked" contest just so Profit and Lace doesn't win? ;)

If we were eliminating episodes instead of saving them, it might go down first. So still a win, for the most insulting effort since "Code of Honor".

Profit and Lace has some unfortunate takes, but it is not designed to be a comment on transitioning, but on empathy between sexes. Some tweaking would have fixed it.

Code of Honor was at its foundations about a culture rooted in primitive ideas that are profoundly unchangeable. It can't be tweaked: the episode's resolution is that the primitive people aren't mentally agile enough to respond to the trickery of the more advanced humans. It cannot be redeemed.

Precious Cargo ought to be considered the worst on every list it appears on. The writing is dreadful. The directing is dreadful. The acting is non-existent. Shimerman is always great, as he is in Profit and Lace. Denise Crosby puts a lot of effort into making this weird story of Code of Honor work, and shows good acting chops. No one in Precious Cargo is even doing us the service of phoning it in. They are just giving up.

"Angel One" was a typical S1 episode of TNG, but even it understood how gender equality works. Beata was blaming the Federation outsiders for the fact that Angel One's men were starting to get ideas about equality, but Riker reminded her that it really wasn't that way at all. Her society had simply been evolving in that direction for some time, and the Federation men were just facilitating what was already going on behind the scenes. All Beata could really do was try to ensure that the changes occured at a more comfortable speed.

Compare this with P&L, where one Ferengi female has effectively transformed women's status from livestock to full equality apparently overnight, and opposition from the powers that be evaporates with magical speed. And not even due to the actions of an actual woman, but a man who's been essentially disguised as one. When an episode that's supposed to be about women’s rights manages to be that insulting to women... well, that's an accomplishment!

~ Ow! (;)) My most rewatched ENT episode!* [Although I think I've seen "Vox Sola" just as many times.]

And I'll have you know that I'm:
watching Enterprise for its plot

* I am, of course, aware that Precious Cargo is not exactly on a par with, oh, I don't know, TNG: "First Contact" or DS9: "The Assignment", but I do find it fun! :)

P.S. Thank you for the quote - and the laugh - @Detached Nacelle :D

"Precious Cargo" was literally the episode that broke my Trek fandom. I'd been following all of it religiously since first discovering TNG in season 5, and growing ever more dissatisfied with Enterprise as I slogged through it. But honestly the only thread keeping me involved was how hot I thought Trip was.

When "Precious Cargo" has that scene of Trip wrestling in the water in his underwear, I was bored out of my mind, and I was like, if even this cannot interest you, it's over!

Ha ha! Oh, dear, @Sakonna. No, that didn't bode well. I must admit, I was rather disappointed in the water fight too, but only because Trip was knocked out so quickly. I did read somewhere that Connor Trinneer was rather unhappy with that scene - mainly because it was so cold and wet, as I recall?

Didn't the Adjudicator T'Pol scene bring a little smile to your lips?
