"PROVING GROUND" is worth saving just for Shran declaring the 'Andorian Mining Consortium runs from no one.' (Never mind that it is also one of the best of season 3.)



Saving "IMPERFECTION".

As always, Jeri Ryan brings her 'A' game. Great episode for her and Icheb, who really shines here.

I rate this as one of the top 3 of season seven of VOYAGER. (Along with "LINEAGE" and "THE VOID".)

Saving "THE MUSE".

While the Jake story was somewhat weak, the 'B' story with Lwaxana and Odo was excellent and super sweet.

In fact, the Jake half is the only reason I don't call DS9 season 4 perfect. Damn near, though... 25 and 1/2 episodes out of 26 that are pretty much flawless. Only other season in the franchise that can compete is... DS9 season 5, with only a single, full episode out of 26 being a dud. ("LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN..." being the only dud.) DS9 season 4... still the best season in the franchise.

The episode fell a bit short of its potential in general, though I did like Janeway getting more ruthless while her opponent had a change of heart.

One thing that ENT season 1 doesn't get enough credit for is bringing back a sense of wonder and joy of exploration. It was a feeling that was missing from the franchise for years.

This episode, while not the best, did show the crew truly enjoying exploration. For the first part, anyway.

And Porthos hopping out of the shuttlepod to go run... how can that not make you smile?

One of the big complaints about Voyager was the speed at which the Maquis become StarFleet. "Learning Curve" showed some of the problems of trying to fit the two different styles together. I wish we'd seen more like it.
