I think I ejoyed this episode more than Shades of Green. The variant versions of the Cerritos crew were hilariously done, with King Billups pulling ahead. :D

I liked how they kept referring to the our crew as evil.

I wondered what else the crew would be running away from in the S5 credits, so eas delighted to see the hand of Apollo appear. :guffaw:

Surely its getting to the point where they could do an episode about what the hell is happening there?

Something about this one felt too rehashed idea and boring for me, but since there almost no genuinely disappointing or bad LD episodes I'd still give this one a passing grade. Nice to see that Starbase 80 is a dumpster fire assignment in both universes.

I see they added a giant green hand like the one Apollo uses in Who Mourns for Adonais?, grabbing the Borg cube in the opening credits this season.

I just love how more chaotic the battle in the into keeps getting.
I wonder how much fun it would be to play that kind of crazy "Free for All" battle inside Star Trek Bridge Commander.

I see they added a giant green hand like the one Apollo uses in Who Mourns for Adonais?, grabbing the Borg cube in the opening credits this season.

Huh, there's a Breen ship in there facing off against a Pakled ship, I didn't notice that until now.

Now we have the Crystalline Entity showing up, along with Apollo's hand + Whale Probe + V'Ger.

This battle has nearly everybody in there.

I wonder if in the final episode we're going to see a whole lot of these ships exploding. I don't remember if they got the cancellation notice late or early, but it would be so fun to see this battle actually conclude somehow in the final episode.

This was a lot of fun!

The animated format is the better one for doubling up crews like this... just about EVERYONE got to pair themselves with their other version.

Speaking of animated... it's always wonderful to see how TAS is given so much love in this show. Blue Orions! (And funny how they pronounce the green ones so differently.)

Kayshon fighting with himself was hilarious.

"Otherford"... loved that! Boimler was right when he said 'Otherford' is creepily close to being Borg.

I don't know if anyone else caught this, but Other Ransom called his universe 'Prime'. This makes absolutely perfect sense... any universe will think of themselves as the prime version. I'm glad this was said out loud.

Was I seeing things, or was one of the objects in that ship's vault a Bajoran tablet? Like the one Sisko broke to release the pah-wraith in "THE RECKONING".

"No interpersonal conflict among the crew!" Nice gentle jab at TNG's writer rule.

And clearly the laughing gas getting through the breathers was a jab at the (extremely stupid) DISCO scene in season 4.

Tendi using her Starfleet training in an Orion pirate way was awesome. And I love how it was a medical ship they found. (One of the reasons why this show works so well is because the writers TRULY know the source material. This ship has to be an expansion of a line from TOS about Roger Korby translating Orion medical records.)

I don't recall Mariner being her middle name, but it makes sense... considering she wanted to keep the fact she was the captain's daughter a secret.

Overall, a fun episode to start the season with. I think I'll give it an 8.

Side note: that battle in the title sequence has gotten so ludicrous. AND I LOVE IT!!!! They added Tholians, Apollo's hand, and... V'Ger? This is completely bonkers, but somehow it works brilliantly.

I felt like the two episodes are emphasizing CharacterDevelopment even when the protagonists are unaware of it.

1. Boimler becoming a far more capable leader is something he's gradually sinking into and we're discovering he's basically becoming Riker. He was able to handle the events of the second episode (mostly) without panicking and on his own.
2. Captain Freeman is pretty much a sign of how divergent the two of them have become with the former believing that being a ruthless asshole is how all leaders are (which is due to her trauma never being resolved) while Captain Mariner is someone who has come to cherish both the leaders as well as people under them as family.
3. I actually assume the Point of Divergence in the Alt-Verse is that Captain Freeman (Senior) was a far worse captain than the one in "our" universe and that's why she's at Starbase 80. Everyone under her made decisions they hated except Boimler, who was able to thrive early. My guess being that Boimler only recently transferred back and was on the Titan for years here.

It may very well be Fajo's ship. The exterior sure looked like it. (Fajo's valuables were returned to their original owners at the end of "The Most Toys", but I don't think anything was said about the ship. Especially considering how much time passed, it may have been bought at a 'used starship lot', for lack of a better term.)
