Rank the Series

1. DS9 - after a slow first season, this show got better and better. I like all the characters and the writing is great.

2. & 3. TOS and VOY - which one of these I like best changes all the time. This week it is TOS, but next week it could be VOY. Both had their share of good and bad (but mostly good) episodes....and both had a doctor I absolutely *detested*, surrounded by a bunch of other characters I loved.

4. & 5. TNG and ENT - like TOS & VOY, these two are in a virtual tie. TNG the show was okay...but the last 2 movies have really brought it down IMO, as have some of the smug and superior attitudes of a few of the cast members in real life....a couple of whom wrecked the ENT finale in their free time, making me even *more* annoyed with them. I think ENT has more characters that I like...but TNG has more stories that I like.

I've seen you mention your dislike for The Doctor before, but what is it about Bones that rubs you the wrong way?

I couldn't rare then one to five in order; I don't agree with rating anything with artistic expression, whether that happens to be fine art, classical music or mass-appeal commercial TV shows. ;) I just put them in two categories: one I like and watch (TOS, TNG, DS9) and ones that I dislike and avoid (VOY, ENT).

TOS - The first two seasons are very good, and it's dated pretty well after four decades.

TNG - The first two seasons were Jesus-titty-fucking-Christ awful, but all the later seasons was the entire franchise at a peak that it hasn't quite gotten back to since.

DS9 - Certainly overhyped, started with a slightly weak season, and kinda of fell apart in the last season, but it is a very solid show and many good political/war orientated stories, with very good cast with only a couple of weak links.

VOY-tie-ENT - Both flawed and disappointing in light of what they could've been, but not quite as awful as many fans said they were. Couldn't quite match DS9 or early Stargate SG-1 most of the time, but they've both aged well production value wise, and holding up much better than TNG's throughly mediocre series of movies from the mid to late 1990s and early 2000s, but has a relatively low number of genuinely excellent episodes per season.

Put in order from 1 to 5 how would you rank the Star Trek series?

1. TNG
2. TOS
3. DS9
4. VOY
5. ENT

You?

*Sorry if this has already been posted*

This is posted every few months, but that's no big deal. Also, my opinion has changed since last time I answered this.

1. DS9
2. TNG
3. ENT
4. TOS
5.
6.
7.
8. VOY

DS9 is easily my favorite. I almost feel like a blasphemer for raking ENT above TOS. You have to respect that TOS came first and was a groundbreaking show that made all the rest of trek possible. I haven't seen all of TOS or ENT, but right now I enjoy watching ENT more. Voyager has a few great episodes that are as good as any trek there is, but most of Voyager I watch only for laughs. The last time I would have ranked VOY above ENT because until a short while ago my entire opinion of ENT was based completely on Storm Front, which I think is a silly and mediocre episode.

1. Voyager
2. The Next Generation
3. Deep Space Nine
3. Enterprise
5. The Original Series

I know Voyager's not the most popular, but I loved the characters.
Deep Space Nine and Enterprise come joint third. I think Deep Space Nine is of a better quality but some of the characters, like Jadzia, annoyed me so it drags it down as a favourite.
I've never seen the Original Series all the way throug, it doesn't hold my attention like the other shows. I'm sure I'll make it one day though.

1. Enterprise - I loved the characters. The production values were top notch. It also had some of Star Trek's best episodes such as "Observer Effect", "Twilight", "First Flight", "United", IAMD, Terra Prime, etc. With the 4 short seasons we got it might not have had time to develop into the best, but it was my favorite. I personally feel if it had had another 1-3 seasons to do the Romulan War it would rank way higher with most people as long as it kept the same creative team from season 4.

2. Deep Space Nine - Great series. The only downside to it is being so arc based it somehow makes watching single episodes not as enjoyable I guess because you're only watching a small piece of the puzzle.

3. The Original Series - I used to rank this last but in the last few months I've really started to notice this show. While dated, it's got a ton of classic episodes and mantains a consistant quality to it. I can thank Star Trek Remastered for getting me to give it another look. It definately looks great too in HD.

4. The Next Generation - While it's way too P.C. for my tastes and the character's don't feel as rich and developed as some of the other series it produced some great episodes and one of the nice things is that I can watch any episode in any order and enjoy it the same. The FX is a bit dated but still works well enough.

5. Voyager - This series reminds me of my childhood the most since i was 5-11 when it aired so I look upon it more fondly than I probably should. It used to be my favorite until Enterprise Season 3. In recent years I've realized how much wasted potential is here and how much better it could have been so that brings it down to it's rank here.

6. The Animated Series - It's a pretty good continuation of The Original Series but the cheesy 1970's animation brings it down a lot as well as the overused soundtracks and some of the voice acting. There are some great stories here though such as Yesteryear, The Time Trap, The Slaver Weapon, and The Jihad.

I genuinely enjoy them all though. None of them are bad or terrible and viewed as a whole make up a great universe.

DS9--doesn't even really rate as Star Trek to me, I'm not interested in Palestine analogies, terrorists, war, and politics when it comes to Trek. Excellent show for what it is--fine characters, cast, writing, and like that--but Star Trek? Not so much. The only series that is represented in my dvd collection only in Fan Collectives. After participating in this board for the last few months, I went back and watched some DS9, and it was much, much better than I remembered. I thought it was well written, acted, and paced--but it's just not my cup of tea.

That's interesting, because:

1. Enterprise's season 3 story arc was heavily based on the post-9/11 (so-called) terrorism threat. Much like Sisko in "In The Pale Moonlight", Archer had to set aside some of his ethics and beliefs for 'the cause'.

2. A number of ENT's season 4 episodes, such as the Vulcan arc and the Romulan episodes, dealt with politics. In fact I got something out of those episodes that I had missed since the day I saw the last episode of DS9.

Yep, loved Enterprise seasons 1 and 2 best, probably wouldn't have kept up with it if it had started with 3 and 4. I stayed because of the characters, at least they were on display in season 3, but in season 4, the characters disappeared in "Trek pre-history stories"--not a fan of Enterprise season 4 at all. It's not a surprise that Niners would like Enterprise seasons 3 and 4, and I wouldn't. I'm not dissing DS9, I'm just saying that it's not Trek to me personally. Actually I'll take DS9 over new BSG any day--loved new BSG until New Caprica, then it went all to hell. Just for context--watched TOS in syndication as a kid in the 70s, and all the rest as an adult starting with TNG in graduate school.

ENT
DS9
TOS
TNG
VOY
TAS

Just as the origional series, Enterprise gets better as time goes by, and we become more forgiving of the bad episodes.
