If SNW only gets 5 seasons as well

If gods forbid SNW only gets 5 seasons like its dearly departed bretheren then I think it will need a flashforward much in the same way Discovery had.

After making the choice to not do one season for one year then 5 seasons will not complete Pike's five year mission. Although I do understand it, a piddly little 10 episode season for an adventure of the week style show will leave far too much of the adventure untold.

The show I feel needs to end with Pike's accident and Spock's plan to take him to Talos and possibly even a further flashforward to a memorial service for him post Menagerie. Have Uhura sing the lyric version of the TOS theme like I'm sure she did in some comic at some point.

Hardly connecting the dots. Pike's arc and his inevitable doom is the biggest part of the show and that needs to be the focal point of its end for the most satisfying emotional resolution especially for people introduced to Pike from Discovery it'll be the culmination of that arc started all the way back in 2019 for a lot of people. And "and the adventures continue until they don't" wont really be the same and you need something shown as opposed to expecting people to go watch a 60 year old show to see the epilogue.

Here I was thinking it was likeable characters and an episodic format that allows for a variety of different stories which don't centre on a protracted season-long, Universe-ending plot that hits the molasses halfway through.

I feel like there has to be some hint to the audience at some point that Pike's accident isn't the end of his story. They don't have to show the accident and they definitely don't need to remake any TOS, but I think it'll feel incomplete if SNW viewers aren't pointed towards The Menagerie.

Yeah I'm sure they will.

There's nothing wrong with ending the show at a point before Pike's time commanding the Enterprise comes to an end. So Pike continues to have adventures which simply won't be televised. It'll help the tie-in material continue to do SNW stuff without being constricted to fitting it within the timeframe of the series, and it leaves the door open for potentially revisiting the show at some point, like a streaming movie assuming Section 31 didn't completely soil the concept irreparably.

And really, the epilogue scene tying into Calypso was completely unnecessary in Disco's finale, that scene between Michael and Book on the beach worked perfectly as a final scene anyway. Seeing Pike's fate in SNW's finale would be just as unnecessary, maybe even more so given we already saw his accident on Disco, with footage of it already having been shown on SNW a few times in S1.

Im ok with that. The menagerie at this point is the end of his story unless they decide to bring him back in the 25th century after Piard and Riker visit Talos IV because the death penalty has just been lifted and discover the talosians medical knowledge has advanced to such a degree that Pike is cured and hasnt aged a day since before the accident. They bring Pike back to earth and he brings love and peace back to the federation and starfleet after years of them getting further from an enlightened species because of the borg and dominion attacks of the last 30 years has made everyone cynical, angry, violent and swearing all the time. Pike ushers in a new era of human paradise. Lol

Nah.

I hope SNW gets a renewal for a 5th season, but yeah, with everything else going on with Paramount and the Streaming industry in general, I would say a 5th season. Isn't a sure thing.

Hell, I'd like to see 8 seasons so SNW has the same amount of episodes as TOS, but yeah, no real hope of that.

If I was them I would pull an Andor and have the final season (Whenever that may be) be comprised of 5 mini movies (comprised of 2 episodes) each covering the final years of Pike's command and leading up to Kirk taking command.
So it would be like:
  • Episode 1-2 (2261)
  • Time Jump
  • Episode 3-4 (2262)
  • Time Jump
  • Episode 5-6 (2263)
  • Time Jump
  • Episode 7-8 (2264)
  • Time Jump
  • Episode 9-10 (2265)

Or they can just continue doing their own thing with the show's already episodic nature and if that means there's a gap of time in universe between the finale and when Kirk is supposed to take command, than there's a gap. SNW's just fine as it is and doesn't need to emulate Andor, no matter how good Andor might be. Andor and SNW are completely different shows and there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm still betting the last scene of the last episode will be shot on the TOS set tour bridge, after a "refit" and will have the new Kirk send them off to do TOS. Fanwank explosion.

SNW is adventure of the week, that's all it's meant to be and I suspect they won't drop that to do any more direct-TOS prequels than they have already.
