We don't know what the origin of that particular model is.
It was made by the people that CBS/Paramount hired to make CGI models.

If you want to waste your time retconning what, in the 1960s, resulted from the reuse of stock footage made at different times and what was only intentionally that, well, I guess it's your time to waste. That's about all I have to say about it.Absolutely. For example we see this in a modern Star Trek movie too..
From one shot to the next they must have used different models as the nacelles have the glowy thing in the middle shotBut we know the nacelle configuration can change.
Maybe you guys are arguing the wrong thing about the lack of budget. The lack of budget is for animating in between different modes in TOS![]()

As for what happened here in STXI, was it? Maybe it was an homage to the 1960s footage situation, maybe not. It's at least marginally more interesting to find out how that came to be than trying to retcon the 1960s footage.
No one uses VHS?Which doesn’t matter now, because people watching TOS now only have the remastered versions to view either streaming or OTA.
Same. Just an old Herbert.Lots of people here care about canon and continuity. I’m just not one of them.
I’m Herbert.

But why? Why can't the New Jersey be a Constitution Class? We've already seen that a great many of them are named after famous Earth warships, and the USS New Jersey BB-62 was most certainly a famous warship. In my opinion the U. S. S. New Jersey of Picard fame, is a renamed Saladin class Destroyer. They needed a Constitution class very fast...
Took it into a space dock replaced the warp nacelle with a secondary hull. Then relaunched her. Under the new name.
The interior wasn't changed, but crew went up to 288...with the secondary hull having space taking 70 of the additional 88.
Numbers come from the Saladin class general plans.

Not really. There are multiple ships named for places or cosmic locations (per Ex Astris Scientia's master list):I suppose it stands out because it doesn't memorialize a virtue, document, or concept.
There's plenty of canonically named Constitution class ships with mundane names. USS Exeter comes to mind. A city in England. A town in Canada. A Heavy Cruiser in the Royal Navy.Among Constitution Class ships, I meant.
Quark has an entire warehouse full. Got them for a song.It seems awfully convoluted. Does Starfleet have a store of extra secondary hulls and warp nacelles?
NOPE.I tend to treat TOS & SNW as different timelines, that easily explains the tech differences.
Obviously, there was one around, in need of a primary hull.It seems awfully convoluted. Does Starfleet have a store of extra secondary hulls and warp nacelles?
