Transition and explanation of SNW into TOS technology

Absolutely. For example we see this in a modern Star Trek movie too..

From one shot to the next they must have used different models as the nacelles have the glowy thing in the middle shot :) But we know the nacelle configuration can change.

Maybe you guys are arguing the wrong thing about the lack of budget. The lack of budget is for animating in between different modes in TOS :D
If you want to waste your time retconning what, in the 1960s, resulted from the reuse of stock footage made at different times and what was only intentionally that, well, I guess it's your time to waste. That's about all I have to say about it.

As for what happened here in STXI, was it? Maybe it was an homage to the 1960s footage situation, maybe not. It's at least marginally more interesting to find out how that came to be than trying to retcon the 1960s footage.

Is it a retcon though? What established the TOS Enterprise that we can argue it's a retcon in the first place? Come on, let's waste some more time together :D

In my opinion the U. S. S. New Jersey of Picard fame, is a renamed Saladin class Destroyer. They needed a Constitution class very fast...

Took it into a space dock replaced the warp nacelle with a secondary hull. Then relaunched her. Under the new name.

The interior wasn't changed, but crew went up to 288...with the secondary hull having space taking 70 of the additional 88.

Numbers come from the Saladin class general plans.

But why? Why can't the New Jersey be a Constitution Class? We've already seen that a great many of them are named after famous Earth warships, and the USS New Jersey BB-62 was most certainly a famous warship.

It seems awfully convoluted. Does Starfleet have a store of extra secondary hulls and warp nacelles?

I suppose it stands out because it doesn't memorialize a virtue, document, or concept.

Back when fandom thought that this era of Trek had only one saucer design type, a bunch of fans figured that the entire Ptolemy class of transports was retired en masse at some point, leaving literally dozens of relatively low-mile saucers in surplus. In the subsequent ramp up of similar designs modernized like the Connie's TOS to TMP refit, when the ASDB gang wanted to try something new, they broke one of the old Ptolemy saucers out of Qualor II (or wherever), refitted it, and used it as the basis for a shedload of designs with the TMP saucer as its base.

Going back to an older point in the thread, it was mentioned that I thought it'd be a great idea to do a retro episode of SNW for the 60th Anniversary and how the Enterprise should absolutely be filmed as a model. Now being that I'm sure they won't open up the glass and film the original in the Smithsonian, @AdmiralBuck just finished the next best thing.

It's the best model I've ever seen of the original and could absolutely be used to make a retro, 60s style episode.

That is absolutely beautiful. Plus unlike the original model, it seems like this has both sides!

They should get that into a motion control rig and use it for the last shot of the Enterprise in the finale.
