There's no wrong way to be a fan, and I'm definitely not trying to denigrate anyone's choices. It's just so far from my own mindset on something like this, that it's kind of shocking, is all.

Going in blind makes me anxious if I’m really invested in the story/characters. Thus, I always flip to the end of the book/read the plot summary/find the spoilers to get the stressful part over with, then I’m able to enjoy the ride and appreciate the details. Half my friends do the same to various degrees, while the rest always want to go in unspoiled. So we all just keep a poker face until everyone is caught up. No wrong way to be a fan and consume media as long as everyone stays respectful!

And yes: in this particular case, it’s plausible that folks thought they’d encounter plot points online between now and Netflix and wanted to draw their own conclusions. Some of my spoiler-averse friends watched for that reason. But I haven’t encountered any uncensored spoilers in the wild yet so maybe there’s hope. And I really, really can’t wait for it to drop in English so I can watch it about 600 times.

Oh, nevermind. That was someone else in this thread. Still, you came here to seek out more information about it. You could have not done so. Also, you could've been told a spoiler by someone online even if it were available everywhere and you just hadn't watched it yet.

Again, the problem is not with France licensing the show, but with Netflix delaying its wider release unnecessarily.

I pointed out that Netflix should have released it by now or at least given a release date!

I think this is then the issue of Paramount who just made it non exclusive.
FranceTV did nothing wrong.
How everyone else chooses to air Prodigy S2 is up to them, but since FranceTV aired it all in one go, then everyone else should do the same (otherwise they will look like fools).

It just shows how outdated it is to push a show on a weekly basis in the age of streaming (heck, once all of it airs, you can rewatch it all again anyway in one go or whenever you have the time - weekly releases don't change that - its literally up to the consumer to decide). Once production and editing has been done, just release all of it (since all of it is done).

I don't agree that France has spoiled anything.
It just means they decided to air it differently than others.
People may end up mad at Netflix and other distributions though for NOT releasing the whole of S2 in English ASAP though... at worst, they have to wait for English version to trickle out on a weekly basis (which will be a pain if they do that)... but all I really care about is that the show receives recognition and success and renewal for more seasons... and if this helps it do that, then no one should complain.

The spoilers are coming from people who have seen it in France so how is that not France spoiling it?

Okay, I’ll admit that my comments may have come across like I was attacking France Tv. I’m sorry I’m just so upset that others are seeing it before us in an age where things can be uploaded simultaneously, and instantly.

I also get huge FOMO around Trek because it means so much to me, especially Kate Mulgrew & Janeway!

I don’t think it’s France.tv’s fault. I do think Trekkies watching the French version could be more conscientious about Trekkies all over the world and try to keep their spoilers to a minimum.

yes I chose to come on here because I wanted to see what everyone else thought about it being released over there. I didn’t click on the spoiler tabs. I asked one question and got it answered somewhat vaguely but it was answered.

I think a lot of people care a lot about this show especially since we petitioned to save it. And we’re angry at Paramount for its treatment of Prodigy.

Indeed. They do this to get free publicity from viewers talking about each new episode both online and off, and perhaps also to prevent people from subscribing for one month or even using a free trial to watch a whole season and then cancel, but I never watch an episode at a time. I always wait until a season is complete and sometimes even until a series is complete. I recently watched the second season of Halo in one day and am waiting until the final episode of The Bad Batch airs on May 1 to watch its final season. I haven't even started For All Mankind, Foundation, Constellation, Silo, Severance, Snowpiercer, Stranger Things, and I'm waiting for Denis Villeneuve to finish his Dune trilogy before watching any of them. I didn't see See until seeing that it had ended. I started doing this when Robert Jordan died.

Spoilers are unavoidable (or should I say, they are a fact of life because of increased communications and interconnectivity) and the internet has a tendency to release spoilers on stuff even before a movie or a show was published/shared.

To me spoilers make no difference. I like reading them sometimes and then see/experience the the actual content. It doesn't detract from my enjoyment.

If a person dislikes spoilers, and doesn't wish to be spoiled, they should probably abstain from reading them.
Websites have a tendency to be strict about spoilers and tend to encourage spoiler tags to be included. This gives you a warning on What's a spoiler and not to click on it.

From the flashbacks in S1 and the prequel comics. FC day was in Children of Mars, the Short Trek prequel to S1. Frontier Day in S3 was different, about the first flight of the NX-01.

I grasp that a big deal is made about rescuing Captain Chakotay...but his crew doesn't get mentioned. We see his Aurelian first officer on video but in the later episodes there's Chakotay and nobody else.

What happened to the original Protostar crew besides Chakotay and Hologram Janeway?

One of the moving scenes that may be too much for kids was finding officer Birdperson's skeleton with the antimatter they needed

And... I legitimately don't know what their deal is? But I LOVED every second of it. They had so many beautiful scenes together (even with most of the nuance lost in translation) that I truly have no clue which was the one that made Kate cry and Nami blush. I didn't catch one grand declaration of feelings, but they had such perfect "these people are in love and do nothing to hide it so why state the obvious" energy that even the kids remark on it. And she touches him SO much. It's glorious. TLDR: It wasn't what I expected but they nailed it. And I really can't wait for the English release so I can fully experience the voice acting and word choices in their scenes.

I also don't understand French, but I thought Chakotay's entire arc was SO well done. Prodigy really did more to flesh out his character in this one season than Voyager did in its entire run. His convictions, strength of character, incredible skill as a Starfleet officer, tendency to slide into Dad Mode with his crew, devotion to Kathryn, and the rage that led him to the Maquis are all there onscreen. What a masterful portrayal. I can't wait to watch this season in English to see if they handle his heritage better; I *think* they did, but I couldn't tell.

This is so shitty of France TV! Sorry but you ruined it for the rest of us who have seen spoilers! Though Paramount, really?! Without exclusivity? Geez just crap all over Prodigy more why don’t you!

Only Paramount made a really bad move IMO when it completely abandoned PRO and erased it from their own services and advertising just to get taxes back or whatever their reason was. France TV probably got a license through Nickelodeon, just like S1 was also shown on public kids TV in Germany back then.

But then what we don’t want is for this exact situation where France have aired it all before the rest of the world and spoilers are put online, ruining the hard work and dedication that the whole team put into Prodigy and keeping the secrets and working to get it actually aired after Paramount pulled it. So while I understand what you mean, I also mean it makes this shitty situation we’re in happen.
It’s all just shitty, we’ve all waited for Kate to return as Janeway, even before we knew Patrick was returning as Picard! It’s just such a crap situation. I’m really mad about it

Be mad at Paramount, not at the legitimate channel that has the rights to show it. Also, nothing is ruined, instead it creates more interest and buzz about the show.

I do have to admit, I'm a little surprised by the number of people in this thread that seem to be treating this more as getting the leaked answers to their Prodigy Trivia Final Exam, rather than an entertainment experience. Production design is one thing, I've read articles about production design before something has aired. But character appearances and plot points? I get that a lot of people aren't as spoiler-adverse as I am, but it is genuinely surprising to me how many people want to see it in a language that they don't even understand just to try to glean story details.

Most people I know don't like spoilers because they wanna be surprised. But a few, including me, actually seek them out because bad ones (like CumberKhan in STID) prepare me for it, while good ones (like the D and character cameos in PIC, or all the things here) just make me more excited, not less
Even when you know the Titanic sank and Apollo 13 made it back, you can still watch these movies and enjoy seeing how it happened

Haha - we are a similar kind of weird then!

I don't do it with books but with TV and film I quite like reading about it first, imagining myself how it would be presented, and then seeing how the creators have done it.

I think it stems for me from growing up in the UK during 90's where we often had to wait as much as a year for shows that had been broadcast in US or on Sky so developing an impatience for new episodes or films of shows I love.

The downside being that I am like a puppy with excitement over things I love so I then have to suffer waiting for friends to catch up so I can discuss it

I imagine France TV already paid their dues to Paramount to show Prodigy S2 so I imagine they could show it when they wanted. If anyone is at fault now it's Netflix who are clearly sitting on season 2 for whatever date they've set for it since Paramount clearly isn't bothered about what happens to the show.

What other broadcasters around the world picked up the rights to season 2? It's probably only a matter of time till the English version shows up somewhere unless Netflix managed to get some exclusivity over the English version.
