DS9 Movie...

I know we've all been through it... but I think there should be a DS9 movie. I also think the DS9 relaunch has been so well done that it should be used at least in some form. I know its about as likely as defying gravity. I just think it should be done... should have been done a while a go... I want a really, really good DS9 movie. (With lots of explosions please... :P -- but not exploding Jem'Hadar ships... )

DS9 doesn't have the appeal to warrant anyone forking over the money to put together a decent movie for the big screen. DVD movies would be more realistic but I don't really see the point of making one now. I prefer them to just use the novels to push the story forward since there is much more room to move then a 90 min film.

I'm tempted to say that a DS9 movie would do pretty good- even a straight to DVD one. DS9 was popular, in its day, and in syndication. I mean, there was some time between the end of DS9 and Avatar. And I think it would look neat to see at least a follow up on the big screen, especially if they didn't mind throwing in some relaunch characters for us to see- to cement them. And even tho I too doubt we'll see it... it almost seems like some of the actors are holding it out- even if "Odo" says "don't hold your breath" and even tho most had famillies or kept working, it just seems like they haven't moved on like the TOS and TNG crews did- like they're waiting for their turn kinda.

Plus I've just always wanted it. If I hadn't been wandering around in boredom in a grocery store one day and seen Kitana'klan's face on Avatar bk 2, I would have never known there was a DS9 relaunch. And boy would I be missing out!!!

I would pay to see a DS9 movie. Weather its on the big screen or stright to DVD. I would be more willing to shill out more money then the new movie that is coming out next year.
DS9 is was and always will be the best of the treks.

^ I second.

Another good thing about a DS9 movie that was based on the novel relaunch would be that.... it would make the relaunch canon!!! :D

Muhuhahahaha!!!!!

Agreed. Direct to DVD would be the best market for a project like this. Or, perhaps a sci-fi network mini-series.

As for not seeing the point of doing it now, I suspect you mean because of the fact that the new Trek is being released next year.

Well, as one of those who believed that direct to DVD was the way Paramount should have gone with ANY new Trek feature, I'm not sure I agree with that.

I'm pretty much of the opinion that everything Trek related will be on DVD by the time kids go back to college next year anyway. So, a late summer release of something like this would likely do just fine.

^ Pretty much. Trek is moving on with Star Trek XI so I don't see the point of a DS9 movie at this point, especially until we see just what new ideas and whatnot this next movie throws at us.

As with any book to screen conversion the screen version crops and sometimes makes quite drastic changes to the source. You might not like the new canon that the film would set up.

I wouldn't think they would really consider the relaunch much if they were to make a movie. They would probably only get the greenlight for one feature so they might aim for a movie that is as self contained as possible and one that deals with hanging plot points from the end of the series, such as Bajor joining the Federation and Sisko's return. They would most likely get an original script.

While I enjoy the relaunch for the most part I'm more interested in seeing an original movie on the screen rather then just a movie version of a book. I like to have some mystery in the story and outcome.

Never going to happen, and at this point I think that's a good thing. This isn't Generations, the cast didn't go home Friday from filming What You Leave Behind and come in Monday to begin DS9: The Movie. The cast have moved on, got older. The sets are struck, props, costumes, makeup peices sold on or destroyed. Without a Star Trek on the air, the production team has disbanded, the stages are almsot certianly being used for something else.
Of course this doesn't prevent a movie - all these things were true for TMP. but it certainly massively increases the financial outlay by the studio, probably well beyond direct-to-DVD territory.

I wouldn't mind a DS9 movie, but if Trek XI is successful we probably won't see one. Plus the actors are probably aging by now (it's been almost 10 years since the end of DS9!) So if a movie was created, I even wonder how many more would be made.

You're certainly right about the changes from book to movie- I've liked pretty well every book better when that happens. And if they changed anything, they'd probably omit Taran'atar (like they removed Jemmie Season 2 uniforms. -_- ) ... and then I'd just cry!! But if the future of ST according to Paramount hinges directly on how the upcoming film does, if it does well, maybe they'll finally move on from TOS and TNG and give DS9 its turn. And even if it was set in the DS9 future, it would be interesting. Or what about (spoiler from ENT?) that war that future guy showed Archer when trying to tell him the Xindi would join the UFP?? Hmm.... *starts thinking*

What? Have the god-Captain, Benjamin Sisko come back and defend our space against some intr-dimensional threat foretold by the prophets? I dunno. Personally, I never thought the Sisko got the respect he deserved. But a DS-9 movie? I just can't see where it would go.

Deep Space 9, as a whole, is as near to perfect as a Star Trek series is ever likely to be. I'm glad it's the self contained black sheep of the franchise, and I'm glad it will never be whored out and run into the ground (see Insurrection and Nemesis).

Yes, they're mostly still alive. Odo's character is, as is MA and JGH... I think they were the oldest. The woman that played Ishka passed away tho. :(

And most of them don't seem to be working/doing anything that would prevent them from being in the film. Guest spots etc. "Enough" work with little commitment, for the most part.

I don't want to see another Nemesis... but surely they could write a good movie... I think there were things left unsaid, or new things to explore- the GQ now, finally, for instance if necessary.

wow i certainly hope not. it's one of those chapters best left in the pages of history, like that cousin you never talk about lol. >_<

Any new film would have to be set at least 10 years after the end of the DS9 series. So much can happen in 10 years what makes people think the same crew will be on DS9.

Well, considering that the most compelling and triumphant thing about DS9 was it's central characters and the development thereof, I don't think a DS9 movie with a new crew would quite capture the spirit of the show.

And, considering it's other main draw was its self contained multi-season story arc, a 2 hour cockabout on the station would fail to do the series any justice at all.

TOS and TNG were greatly workable in a motion picture format. DS9, like B5, is TV show through and through. It wouldn't work anywhere else.

True, not all of the original cast would necessarily be on DS9 given the end of the series... but there has to be the potential for something interesting to be happening out there... LOL

Who says you have to tell the whole story in one movie. You could have it be part of a series of movies, say three or four. Yes once you have commited to the one, you really do have to go ahead with the whole thing. But why not. It worked for a few movies out there, Back to the Future, The Karate Kid, etc.
