"Starfleet Academy" - The Show

They could do it post Picard and have the Rikers daughter as the series lead. Maybe have Chief O'Brien around for 4to 5 episodes as the guy in charge of the Academy.

That's one hell of a promotion, from Non-com to Commandant,

He did accept a teaching position at the Academy - I guess he could have been promoted - but just having him as a lecturer and Reg Barclay teaching too - wouldn't be a bad way for the next generation of Starfleet Engineers to learn!

Think it happened to Schultz in a couple of episodes.

Well in theory you would think he has spent many years teaching at the Academy since the show would be a few decades after DS9. By then his experience would outweigh his rank. Plus he has been in jobs before like on DS9 where he has had authority over commission officers. I would like to think that while rank is important in Starfleet you do have people like O'Brien who are able to sort of break through anyways due to just how qualified they are. Actually one could see this first happening years ago on Enterprise when T'Pol had command authority over Starfleet officers despite never going through Starfleet training.

Yeah, I don't think it works that way in academia or the military.

What about being a talented engineer or teacher qualifies him to run a school with a large and diverse faculty and student body? You don't get to be a CEO because you've been with the company the longest.

She was the XO and later a member of Starfleet, that gave her the authority. She was as long time member of the Vulcan High Command, why would she need "Starfleet training"?

Could have like the marines, a comadant that is an officer and a "seargent major" thats the highest ranked non com. O'brian could have that position in the academy. Like how non coma train officers in ocs.
As with Tpol her billet was 1st officer regardless of rank. Like how Geordie was in command and ordering around the senior chief engineer. Because he was captain.

I 2nd the post enterprise academy idea. Id rather a series IN the romulan war but thats me.

O' Brien though would have a long career and diverse career from soldier to engineer to radical officer. He has had leadership positions and we would talkin 20 years or so of teaching at the Academy so would probably understand how the place functions. Like at first he would just be a teacher of a engineering class but then maybe be put in charge of the whole department. Then eventually the while Academy.

Again being around for a long time doesn't make you qualified to be the boss.

O'Brien might end up Dean of the Academy's Engineering Department, but he certainly wouldn't be head of the Academy itself.

Although some questionable leaked info says it's set in Discovery's 32nd century on "new Earth"
I could see that working. Maybe the United Earth Defense Force has inherited some Starfleet traditions, and maybe jumping from United Earth to Starfleet means you have to prove you're a cut above the rest.

If they do it in Discovery time they will have earth become a member of the Federation and explore the first earth humans to be part of Starfleet in a long time. Probably explore themes of privilege what with earth once being the seat of power of the Federation and racism due these humans not interacting much with aliens. Youtubers will hate it and will take flake for being anti-trek like no others by basically making humans backward modern types. I could see Saru joining the show as a instructor.

a "Starfleet: First Class" setting around 2160
I can see this being its own thing, as a spin off from the Academy show to show the origins of the Academy itself.

Knowing that they don’t want to do anything with the ENT cast - at least right now - and also my personal feeling that we have enough TOS-era material, and that we saw a great deal of the late 24th century Academy during the Berman era. I would say that either the Lost Era, or 2390s-early 25th century would be my guess for the setting of this show. It could also be set during the era of the USS Kelvin, or prior to the launch of the USS Enterprise in 2245.

This is my least favorite premise out of anything we've heard for the modern era of Trek. "YA" (young adult) fiction almost invariably misses the mark with me. I don't like being this way, but I can't seem to break past it.

That aside, my gut says it will be set during the SNW/TOS days but my hope is that it's circa PIC or the new DSC eras instead.

I hadn't even considered an ENT-era thing and I'd be blown away if Kurtzman's given it so much as a single thought. But that might actually be pretty neat.

They're going to have to think through the structure of the Academy's staffing, in any case.

I've removed the link to the file, as the contents don't seem to have anything to do with the topic at hand, or each other. If this is a promotion of your fanfic, keep it in the appropriate forum.

I've seen some spam in my day, but this is one heck of a flavor.
