Alex Kurtzman on streaming movies and the future of Trek

For a talentless hack, he sure occupies a lot of fanbrain real estate, rent-free.

Man in charge of franchise gets criticism for doing a bad job while getting paid millions for doing a bad job. Wait no, he's doing a good job because he's driving fans away and creating a huge negative feeling towards himself and any new projects.

Another vert smart and logical user.

Okay let me break ti down for you like a child.

- Netflix work with Paramount to produce the show.
- The show airs internationally on Netflix.
- The show doesn't appear to make any kind of buzz.
- Despite "parrot analytics" telling the world Discovery is the most popular in the world.
- Despite Discovery being the most popular and successful Trek show ever, Netflix accept about 500k to lose the international distribution rights.
- Star Trek Discovery becomes unavailable to the vast majority of the world
- Because the people in charge are VERY VERY SMART
Some actual context for people who care about such things, written by people who do it for a living

He's not receiving criticism; he's receiving hatred and unwarranted hostility. He made bad entertainment choices and that's it.

You're gonna want to tone down the attitude if you don't want to earn a Warning.
I assume you'll be saying the same to the lads dogpiling me with low quality posts. He literally said he couldn't understand my VERY basic post so I responded in kind. No? Wonder why.

He can take mean words online with the millions he earns for doing a bad job.

Which is not an excuse to get personal. The post, not the poster.
I blocked a chap before because he was telling me to get a life and calling me a liar cause it would have been much much easier for me to insult him back. Can you throw him a warning please?

Maybe but it doesn't excuse hatred in the messaging and undermines any actual criticism.

Define hatred. No one is threatening his family, calling him an ugly old dweeb, they're questioning everything related to why he is supposed to be involved. Which is all fair game when you're being paid millions to produce the nonsense he is coming out with.

I guess people don’t feel you’re arguing in good faith.

You blame him for Prodigy being cancelled, which was out of his control, but he doesn’t get any credit from you for his role in creating the show.

Unless you think Prodigy was “nonsense” too. In which case why are you bothered if “he” cancelled it?

Is there anything you like from the current streaming era?

Calling him stupid, clueless, vain and ascribing all decisions as motivated by maliciousness is hatred in the argument.

What negative adjectives for him do you want me to use? Is grossly incompetent okay? I don't think all his decisions are malicious, I think they're greedy, poorly thought out and stupid from a man who has shown multiple times he shouldn't be in charge of Star Trek - forget about his work, purely from the interviews he does alone.

Starfleet Academy

Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, Cowboys and Aliens, Star Trek Section 31)

He also wrote Star Trek '09 (which was a monster hit).

Noga Landau - Doesn't have a wikipedia page but has somehow landed a job as showrunner. However, IMDB indicates she was the creator and showrunner of "Tom Swift" a show no one has ever heard of except the 200 or so people who gave it a 3.3 star rating.

Nicholas Meyer was not a Star Trek fan, either. Yet he would go on to direct The Wrath of Khan (a movie that fans have been praising to the heavens for over forty years).

Outsiders often produce the best Trek.

Then ignore it.
