What if Kirk faced the music

If Captain Kirk was truthful about what happened on Nibiru, what would Starfleet have done?

That's 24th Century thinking. ;)
I still fanwank it that they were "This Side of Paradising" it, and were sent to save the planet by Starfleet, and Kirk got in trouble specifically because they saw the ship. Which, you know, in my book, who cares? The angry mountain belched fire, and a sea dragon with a giant glowing blue eye came out of the ocean, flew over it, and everything became calm. Whatever, it was a busy day, they were going to tell stories about it anyway even if the Starfleeters kept totally incognito.

Give it five hundred years, and it'll probably just be a somewhat interesting island myth about there being dragon eggs in the volcano or something. (I am mildly irritated that the alien was able to draw a perfect top-down schematic view of the Enterprise after seeing it for a few seconds, from the side and below). Sam Cogley could've gotten him off with a slap on the wrist.

Now, if Kirk went down there and phasered a couple thousand people and called himself the divine son of Thor, God of Thunder, yeah, that'll be a PD violation worth getting in trouble over.

I find it troubling that people can be so blase about overwriting a culture's belief system...

Anyway, nobody forced Kirk to lie. That he chose to do so just showed that either even he didn't think he'd done the right thing, or he lacked the integrity to take responsibility for his actions. Hell, I work a job where it's understood that you're going to make mistakes (possibly bad ones) from time to time, but things are oh-so-much worse for you if you try to cover up the mistakes.

I worked in an industry where even the Loss Prevention officer stated that if you were busted stealing it was best to be honest with him first and he would help if he could.

Other SF&F shows have done musical episodes. It's high time that Trek did one as well.

Trek has done pure comedy. It's also done horror/thriller-type stuff. It's even done historical settings such as the old west and the middle ages. The concept of expanding into the musical genre isn't that far-fetched. Consider the novel "How Much For Just the Planet?"

Maybe he's some kind of prodigy?
I know they just wanted to make it as clear as possible what was happening, but it probably should've ended up looking more like one of those butched-up cartoon drawings of jeeps or fighter planes or whatever with angry faces and big biceps.

I suppose it's to be expected, though, since all I can say about STID is that it repeatedly sets up interesting situations and then resolves or develops them in ways that are stupid or banal.

STID felt like all the twists of a stretched out 13 episode Abrams TV show crammed into a 2 hour movie where all we got to see was the twists and action scenes, and none of the characterization or plot development or suspense. It should have been a miniseries.
