William Shatner Confirms Talks for Star Trek Return at 93 Years Old

Just saying, with some of the other changes and rewrites, and all the times I have been told that its just drawing in between and changing perspective on the characters, this would be a very minor things to get over. if we can create entire relationships, put people on the ship ages before they should, and change people's race, then this is barely a drop in the bucket. If I'm forced to accept it or other things, than I am going to use the same mechanic to push for something I want lol.
I'm not opposed to it. Just not sure what Dehner can bring to the mix.

i think there could be some fun interactions between her and gary, leading up the the frostiness. Just a character that its the time period that I have always been the most fascinated with when I watch it. If its too much of a stretch, I would settle for Helen Noel.

Now my writing subroutine has been activated. Gary and Liz do know each other. Had a fling before she was assigned. He being Gary cheated on her. She's still a bit miffed.

Yup, exactly something like that. My take was going to be earlier on-board, but before she was assigned works too. Just think there is still some potential and for a little wiggle room.

Gary has always been one of my favorite characters in the franchise. Not the least of which, an old friend of mine has some very similar characateristics. He embodies a lot of the stereotypes later given to Kirk, and there has to be a reason they were best friends for years, and that Kirk asked for him specifically at one point. We only got to see his bad side, really, but from what I can tell, before that he could have had some positive qualities and a lot of fun scenes. In a world without McCoy, he takes on the bantering with Spock, the humanity, the friendship with Kirk in the trio. The stakes of the pilot hit so much deeper if you think of a whole lost season with that crew. Could even be what leads Piper into retirement or leaving.

Gary is definitely "public perception" Kirk.

I like the idea that the MItchell lady already on the show is Gary Mitchell's sister. Maybe the reason he doesn't like Dehner is because she reported something his sister said to her, that made her loose her job on the ship. He blames Dehner for this. The reason he was recruited to the ship is because Kirk recommended him to Pike.

He could be adopted or she could have been adopted or they are related through remarriage of one of their parents.

Or they’re just not related. You know, Occam’s Razor and all that.

Or they could be robots made by a scientist who was dating a lady named Mitchell and he wanted to impress her by naming his robots after her. I suppose anything is possible but wouldn't it be neat if they are related. Actually now I bring it up I am kind of leaning into the robot idea!

Oh, we don’t do that here. Everything must have an explanation and must be connected, otherwise the audience will never understand every last piece of esoteric minutiae! The writers must explain everything because the audience has the comprehension of middle schoolers, apparently.

This is true. But I don't think Shatner wants that..he has often said he doesn't want a bit part. Unless he has changed his mind I don't see how a two hour movie with a 90+ year old Kirk would NOT be disappointing. I guess they could have Shatner sitting in a captains chair the entire time or consulting a Captain whilst sitting nearby. But I really don't want to see that. The time to do something like this was 15 years ago. Shatner was able to walk much better back than. He has really slowed the last few years.

I would love to see shatner portraying kirk again. Even a sitting admiral behind a desk would be great.

The fewer legacy character stuff the better. If it happens, there is only ONE acceptable way to explain it.

No Genesis.
No alternate reality.
No space magic.
Just...
