Voyager season 3

Here's my thread that I'll use to make occasional comments and loosely track my viewing of season 3 as I make my way through Voyager for the first time...
...of course I welcome any thoughts, comments, complaints, or criticisms. :techman:

I've only made it to False Profits so far (wasn't a huge fan of that one), but I loved Basics II (as well as pt 1) and Flashback was pretty cool as well. It was good seeing some of the original crew, and the concept was interesting.
Those are my top 2 so far... 20 to go.

I loved the idea of following up the Barzan wormhole, although clearly it's a rather small galaxy. (The number of times Voyager runs into Alpha Quadrant connections on it's journey must mean the Delta Quadrant is teeming with them). The episode could be better.

Futures End is brilliant

Season 3 is great but not as good as season 2 and season 1.

However, there are some really grat episodes in this season, like Basics#2, The Swarm, Warlord, Darkling and Future's End.

Here's my favorites list of season 3:

1. Basics#2, 5 points

2. Warlord, 5 points

3. The Swarm, 5 points

4. Futures's End (part 1 and 2), 5 points

5. Darkling, 5 points

6. Before And After, 4 points

7. Fair Trade, 4 points

8. Remember, 4 points

9. Flashback, 4 points

10. Distant Origin, 4 points

11. False Profits, 3 points

12. Sacred Ground, 3 points

13. Favorite Son, 3 points

14. Unity, 3 points

15. Displaced, 3 points

16. Worst Case Scenario, 3 points

17. The Chute, 3 points

18. Rise, 2 points

19. Alter Ego, 2 points

120. The Q And The Grey, 2 points

21. Coda, 2 points

22. Scorpion, 1 point

23. Macrocosm, 1 point

24. Real Life, 1 point

25. Blood Fever, 1 point

Some props for Future's End here... and only 3 replies so far. ;) I'm looking forward to that one, so thanks for the input, Paul.

^ I'm pretty much in line with that.. but I enjoyed the Ripley (Alien) Janeway of Macrocosm.

Now also looking forward to Macrocosm since Alien is my favorite film of all time... HR Giger was the bomb. That guy was dark artist, if there ever was one.

Lynx, thanks again for your points breakdown and ranking! I love that sort of stuff... wouldn't mind if you did that for every season actually. ;)

And I watched Remember last night and really liked it; it was nice to see a B'Elanna-centered ep and the plot bridged a sort of science with emotion nicely (maybe that's what telepathy is all about?)... is it wrong that I was a little disappointed that Janeway didn't have an overt orgasm while playing that musical instrument?

Season 3 was much better than 2 or 1 in my opinion. Warlord, Sacred Ground, Favorite Son being the only episodes that I consider stinkers.

Aaaahh, thanks Sophie. I'll be on the lookout for those "stinkers". ;)
Sacred Ground is coming up next for me actually... and Warlord not far off. Favorite Son I see features Harry Kim. I don't dislike any of the VOY characters (yet anyway), but he's my least favorite so far (my least "Favorite Son", I guess).

Curious to see what other posters here have overlapping opinions with mine since, at least with film, I tend to diverge mightily from the mainstream (well film, music, art, and most other things in my life actually, sheesh).

For reasons that would be a spoiler of future seasons, Lynx would not be able to give you a breakdown of every season.

If you like, I would be happy to ;)

If you check the season 1 thread and season 2 thread, I've done similar ratings there.
As for upcoming seasons, I will get back to that when you have watched season 3.

Well, what I meant to say was I wouldn't mind if Lynx gave me that rundown as I post the threads for each season (so, no posting about s4 until I get to that season)... so, if you could both hold off on details until after I watch the eps, yeah, that would be ideal.
But I do like the rating breakdown (i.e. the 1-5, which isn't much of a spoiler other than someone's general opinion).
Or just use the spoiler tag and I won't look if it's an ep I haven't seen yet. :)

Yes, that's what I meant (I probably mis-typed/mis-communicated something in that post)... and I did see your ratings in the other threads, which is why I anticipated (and appreciated) them here.

Well, I'm not surprised that you hate "Warlord".

But "Sacred Ground"?
A great Janeway episode which shows her will to stand up and sacrifice herself for a crewmember.

And "Favorite Son". A Kim episode and exciting one as well.

For certain reasons, I won't go into anything yet, neither official or private.
I will provide a more detailed explanation later.
I'm not being rude, just want you to watch the episodes without me telling too much about them.

No offense taken... I don't generally take things personally, esp. not on the internet.
And that's pretty much exactly what I was hoping for: for you to give me more detailed opinion/info after I've watched the eps. I don't consider your ranked list more detailed info though, since they don't spoil anything for me.

My faulty communication efforts have muddled this thread. What I should have said originally was... Carry on!

No spoilers :)

I won't give you too much detail of course, but Lynx hasn't seen all the seasons. The reason for that would be a spoiler for you at this point ;)

If you're looking for a rating of each episode I would be happy to provide that for you, but of course it's just my own opinion.

Yes, I don't particularly like either of those episodes. I don't hate Warlord, but I think it's among the worst episodes in the whole show. Sacred Ground had far too much religious babble for me. And Favorite Son...well Kim episodes are very..blah.

Season III was the last we see Chakotay really playing a major part in the festivities on VOYAGER. After Jeri Ryan took over the show, of course, Chakotay's role decreased ... whilst Seven of Nine's increased.

Since I don't know how much knowledge you have about the seasons you haven't watched yet, I don't want to comment on them because of the risk of ruining the upcoming excitement of those.

No spoilers :)

I think, at this point, I could hazard a guess... ;) especially because I do know, roughly anyway, how the series changes after season 3.

Yes, this I have read before. And I have seen a few episodes previously of this series, most of which I think were in season 4. But I'll comment more on that when I actually get to s4. (There's actually one, small factoid that I'm curious about that has to do with Chakotay, but I'll ask later on when I get a bit further into the series)...
