Voyager season 3

As someone who is madly in love with this show, I only have a few episodes in the whole show I don't like.

In Season Three the only one I think of as "not very VOY-like" is THE CHUTE. That one is not to my taste at all. And this in spite of the fact that Tommyboy plays a major role on that one. That episode is too dark for me and would do much better on dark shows like DS9.

I love all the others that have been mentioned before as pretty much disliked by the others - SACRED GROUND being a big fav of mine. It is simply a beautiful story in my book - Janeway shines in that one (doesn't she always? :))

My fav episode of that season is BLOOD FEVER - that one is a gem. It's the third best episode of the entire franchise in my book.

Also, Season 3 features one of the most relaxing holodeck environments they have ever created in any Star Trek shows - and in contrast to popular opinion, I find that that one is a pretty unifying element of this season: a lot of the stories will take place there. Most of the times, we only see it for a minute or two but it's surely a "trademark" of this season.

In addition, this season will start the borg storyline - and I think they are the second best villains of VOY/ST. A good borg story is always a great delight to watch, isn't it?

Btw, I do agree with the others that FAVORITE SON is a bit of a letdown. But then, like you said yourself, Harry is not the most interesting character on VOY.

[...] I have seen a few episodes previously of this series, most of which I think were in season 4. But I'll comment more on that when I actually get to s4. (There's actually one, small factoid that I'm curious about that has to do with Chakotay, but I'll ask later on when I get a bit further into the series)...
Chakotay is my favourite character in the VOYAGER series and one of my favourites in the entire franchise. So, it's difficult to see the character not being expanded upon, as he was in Season II, for example, with episodes like "Tattoo." But Season III held some significant moments for him, such as when someone he loved died and, later, when his beloved Kathryn died and her father came back to haunt her. I loved it how Chakotay stepped out of the shuttle carrying Janeway in his arms, with the lightning crashing, the wind whipping and the rain pouring down in sheets ... really dramatic and memorable stuff! "Don't you die on me, Kathryn!!!" These are moments that are completely memorable and Shakespearian, needless to say. I love that larger than like kind of thing, it always keeps me watching!

Chakotay is one of my favorites too.
Number 2 on my list after Kes.
The character had a lot of potential and could have been the best First Officer in any Star Trek series, a pity that the potential was never really used.
But he did shine in some episodes, like "Caretaker", "Nemesis" and "Tattoo".

I liked this episode very much too, not only for Janeway's sense of sacrifice but its mystical side, the fact that we are left to wonder where is the frontier between science and belief (which is presented under 3 kinds : realistic = which reports the facts within the actual or possible experience and their conduct ; prescriptive = ethical & political beliefs ; mixed = value judgment, religious & philosophical beliefs).
-> in "Sacred Ground", it seems to me that we oscillate between the realistic and mixed beliefs.

And yes, I agree, Kathryn Janeway always shines! :techman:

We must still admit that Borg storyline (from Chakotay to Seven) was cleverly brought, slowly but surely, leaving us to wonder, yes, they are Borg ... but not only! In fact, so much more is hidden under their steel shell and their repulsive appearance. Let's just accept this fact and try to know them better. :)

I'd say that Harry Kim, in general, is an endearing but not an interesting character. In short, he is a nice guy but he would have suddenly left the scene, we maybe, wouldn't notice his absence immediately and/or we would be quickly recovered. Bad for his interpret... well, not really!

I have to say that I am pretty much loving it so far as well.. more than any other Star Trek viewing experience I've had so far (mainly limited to the orig series, feature films, and the first season of TNG). I think it has to do with the characters somehow. I'm curious to see if that holds true by the series' end. (And I'm liking "Tommyboy" so far in the first half of Futures End; he seems like:
he wants to get it on with Sara Silverman, for starters
I'll keep an eye out for Blood Fever when I get to that one... ;)

Ahahahahaha... I completely agree! :techman:

Just watched the first half of Future's End and loved it! One of the better VOY eps so far...
Chakotay is  ... his hair is awesome looking (better than that helmet-style he's stuck with in some later eps!) and, because I lived in Venice Beach from the mid-90s through 2008, I just happened to notice a guy I knew rollerblading in the background of the early Santa Monica Pier scene; it was the roommate of good friend of mine. Laughed out loud at that... :D

Agreed. It was quite threatening. I'd don't much care for gritty prison stories.

Yeah ... characters on this show are so likeable that I've never seen anything like it on any other show. Janeway totally rocks in my book, closely followed by Tommyboy! Everyone else comes in the illustrious third place for me.
I'm curious to see if that holds true by the series' end.
The introduction of Seven in Season 4 might change that a bit but not too much. Once you have started liking these characters, I really don't think they will do anything in later seasons that would give you a reason not to like them any more.

Good, good ... he is the greatest guy in the galaxy ... I wish I had a boyfriend like him. :D:D:D As the show progresses, I think his story will become a lot more interesting, culminating in the last season ... I wonder what you'll think of his stories in later seasons.

Btw, it's nice to see that a relative newcomer like you gets to like this show. On these fora, I often have the impression that the opposite is the case.

Janeway does rock, doesn't she? ;)
I had a markedly different opinion on her before I watched the first 2 seasons and now have a much better appreciation for the character.
I think the characters in VOY are quite relatable, both due to the writing of the characters themselves, and because of the entire backdrop of the series. When you take a bunch of people and throw them into a situation that's totally out of their control and they're forced to make ends meet.... yeah, I can really relate to that and quite easily. :)

...Story of my life, actually. If the masses gravitate toward one realm, then I'm likely to be aimlessly wandering in the other direction, so that doesn't surprise me.
I have actually noticed the same thing on the forums. Plus, even within the VOY fan base, this show seems a bit divisive, mainly due to the changes later in the series. I'm curious how I'll respond to that as well.

The characters are what always drew me to Voyager. I enjoy TNG but I never found the characters as interesting. They are basically perfect people at the top of their fields who always make the right decision. DS9 was better but I still never connected to the caracters as I did with Voyager.

I agree on the characters in TNG, Sophie, or at least based on what I have seen of it. Haven't seen a nanosecond of DS9. Maybe that'll be my next "project".

Sacred Ground (3x07) -> for its mystical side
Scorpion part 1 (3x26) -> Seven's introduction
Macrocosm (3x12) -> for GI Janeway

Warlord (3x10) -> finally, an episode trully focused on Kes and a good acting work form Jennifer Lien

.As you can see, there are still less episodes I enjoyed than in season 2....

I've seen those except for Warlord, which I'm about to watch, and Macrocosm. Scorpion 1/2 was, up until 3 months ago, the only VOY ep I had seen previously, and that when it first aired in the 90s. That ep is actually the reason that I'm watching the rest of the series now.
I liked Sacred Ground and thought Janeway was great... it was a little on the mystical side for me though, and Janeway's "Guide" annoyed me a bit. :p

"Warlord" is excellent! :techman:
"Sacred Ground" is a good one because it shows how Janeway is ready to sacrifice herself for any member of her crew.
I'm not too fond of "Macrocosm", too much a rip off of an excellent horror movie and "Scorpion"........well, I don't know, there are episodes I like better.

As for "Future's End" i really like it, partly because it's a very exciting and good episode overall and partly because it gave us one of the best villains in any series, Mr. Henry Starling!
