Voyager season 3

We do have Netflix here in Scandinavia but I'm not sure if Voyager is available on that one.

If there is, I might take a look at some of the later episodes, at least one in season 5 where my second favorite after Kes shows up.
Flotter

More about that in the upcoming season 5 thread. ;)
They should have a free 30 day trial where you could see what's available. Or perhaps you can get CBS all access. The series are available there. It certainly would be easier and cheaper than buying dvds ;)

I know it's one of those episodes that people hate but I enjoyed Flotter

Same with CBS. I have Amazon prime for the 2-day free shipping but I've never actually tried to watch movies on it. I've heard ST is on there also.

Note that amazon prime does have adverts, at least on the amazon fire - it doesn't natively on my LG tv though.
Do you need a firestick to watch movies on Amazon Prime? And is it a separate subscription from the kind of Amazon Prime that I have?

You would need one if your tv did not have acces to internet. If you have a smart tv, or a blue ray/ playstation/ other that connects to wifi you can just use those devices hooked up to your tv.

Patrick Stewart came to Budapest and when the Q & A started, he asked the fans not to ask him questions about plot points. He actually told us that he didn't really remember most of the things and anyway he had only played that role and usually had no idea what was going on, esp. if it was something technological.
Of course, the very first question he got was about why the Federation had done this and that when two seasons earlier the Romulans had said this and that - something along those lines ... I was rolling my eyes. Luckily, PS seemed to have a good sense of humour so he handled the situation very well ... but I had the inclination to walk up to that idiot and hit him on the head with a hammer shouting "Look, this is exactly what he has just asked you NOT to do ..." (I exercised self-restraint though and didn't do anything, of course). Out of the, say, fifty questions, forty were in similar vein ... I just couldn't believe it.
But like I said, Stewart bore it with a brave face - and he seemed to have a very good sense of humour. I really grew fond of him - no small feat in my case, considering I can't bear to watch Picard ...
The other thing was all those "fans" that appeared in some kind of ST costume - expressing their disdain with every single look towards us, ordinary mortals who were not cosplaying. I went as myself and had the misfortune to have a seat between a Klingon warrior and a Borg drone ... The glances they were throwing at me ... spoke volumes. You could sense in the air that there was a real danger of being assimilated any minute by that guy sitting on my left ... :ouch::ouch::ouch:
Great story! I don’t really understand why people do what they do sometimes. They weren’t listening or can’t hear or comprehend--?? Idk.

Oh, please carry on with these old-fashioned words - there's a reason I am an English teacher, I just love to learn new words! So don't hold back and throw your most distinguished vocabulary at me, please ... :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:
And as a former student of languages, I am used to "archaic". We read everything from Chaucer through Shakespeare to Dickens at university ... Also working our way through Goethe's Faust in German written with the letters of the Gothic alphabet wasn't exactly our idea of fun ... but at least it made us get used to archaic texts.
Ahhh, no wonder your English is so good, you witty, articulate youth of letters! Chaucer is tough. I like Beowulf quite a bit. Growing up on the King James’ Bible helped a bit with the archaic English. Sometimes I wish I’d gone into linguistics. I love seeing the word and sound shifts between old and new, related languages and dialects.

How about Europeans? Does that help with the count? :D
It would!

I love REPENTANCE. Especially the scene between Janeway and Seven at the end. Also the fact that no matter who you are, astronomy is one thing that most of us find fascinating. The stars have these appeal to them that nothing or no one else has. And this much was apparent from that episode, I think.
So true!

I don't understand the last two words but they remind me of the Terminator - a series I also really like. As for StarGate, I can't even begin to think what things your friends found annoying about the characters. To me, StarGate SG-1 is the second best show after VOY - so you have a real SG fan here. Add Star Wars to this and it'll become apparent that my favourite shows/films usually include the word "star" in their titles ... :brickwall::brickwall::brickwall:
Hasta luego” is Spanish for “until later”. I'm originally from Southern California and also lived in South America for over a year. Oh yes, Arnold the Terminator did say that. T2 is my favorite. I caught a few scenes being aired the other day. Great stuff.
Re: Star Gate. No, my friend didn’t find it annoying. That was me. It sounds like they had a female character in unrequited love with the lead (who I don’t think ever get together). And then when Daniel finally found his wife, she was taken over by an alien I think. She ends up dead or gone forever, I forget. Anyway, types of things I find annoying in series when they don’t wrap up characters and storylines in satisfying ways. But then I didn’t actually watch the series, so nevermind what I say! :D Toodles.

In my experience there are a few different kinds of people. There are people who get star truck and trip over their words and forget what was said. There are children who just don't usually get the "rules". There are also people who appear to have some sort of social issue. In every convention I've been to I've always noticed some people who appear to have some sort of issue. The actors are always great with them and even if they ask a "bad" question the actor will play along and give some kind of answer.

Of course you will get the occasional person who is just a jerk. But i've never seen an actor be rude even with a jerky person.

Where in S. America? My cousin spent, I believe 2 years in Chile. She now teaches high school Spanish.

I myself spent 6 mos in Darien province, Panama, on a "humanitarian" sort of thing. I learned the language enough to talk to people, and (almost) have conversations, but quickly forgot most of it after returning. I ran into a college student there from Illinois, or Iowa or something. She was there to learn Spanish, just living with a local family in a hut out in middle of nowhere.

It was a pretty interesting experience.

I guess people are simply stupid, that's the explanation. You could actually see that there were people there with notes in their hands and those notes contained questions they wanted to ask Picard. Of course, having written those questions in advance, no one was going to derail them from asking them, rules or not.
Another difficulty was that no matter how many times the moderator of the event told them to ask their questions in Hungarian and wait for the interpreter to translate them, half of the people tried to ask something in their very poor English. This resulted in either Patrick Stewart's not understanding the question or his answering it immediately (which was logical) to which half of the audience started shouting that they had no idea what was going on. Aaargh ... the whole thing was pretty disappointing.
I also hate this artificial gushing over the actor in question. They are humas, after all, they are not Gods, so don't treat them like they are some superior beings, for crying out loud!

If you like that kind of thing, there are very good books on the topic. I personally prefer modern day grammar and modern day everything - I wish I had a book on contemporary slang (not a dictionary! A proper textbook that teaches you this kind of stuff). But like I said if you like the history of English, there are plenty of books to read on the subject.
Regarding Beowulf, maybe we could even teach something to the Doctor et al and tell him how to pronounce those words in HEROES AND DEMONS. Definitely not with 20th century American accent!

Well, what you've heard about it is true. However, this is a bit like someone not wanting to watch VOY because Janeway and Chakotay never get together. VOY is great fun even without their relationship. And for me so is StarGate. That show is great, I can only recommend it.

Regarding unrequited love stories in a series, and why writers may avoid taking the plunge, maybe Spock can offer up some wisdom:

"She is yours. After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true."

Prax, que bien! I was in Uruguay for an LDS or Mormon mission. 2 months learning the language, then 16 months in country. 8 months near the Argentine border, 4 months in the capital, Montevideo, and then 4 months up on the border with Brasil. I was just getting comfortable with my Spanish and then went where they spoke a kind of Spanish-Portugeuse mix. Aaaargh! But it was a beautiful country. Great people. And I loved being mostly “en el campo.” We would rent a room from local families, though not huts. I got to visit Sao Paulo, Brasil and Lima/Cruzco, Peru on my way home.

Yes, I took a History of English class way back when in college. Still have that text somewhere...
Have to say as much as I like Beowulf, I hate Voyager’s “Heroes and Demons”. Wasn’t crazy about their holodeck photon-Grendal or the doctor as a hero. (ducks the slings and arrows) I know that is a favorite of many fans.

Well, that’s not why I didn’t watch StarGate. I chose not to get involved with it long before those story arcs were fleshed out. Just commenting on how the story or character lines struck me, after seeing these writer choices all too often. But to each his own.

I took that line in that situation as a warning specific to poor Stonn. T’Pring revealed herself to be a pretty quick thinking, calculating lady. I suspect that Spock might have been feeling like he had just dodged a bullet, so to speak. “Often true” is not always true.

I thought when the situation came up in Enterprise that it would have been interesting to show “Amok Time” from the woman’s POV, it being T’Pol who decided against marrying the guy she’s bonded to, but with only the traditions of their people to get herself free. They created an easy way out instead.

I was taking his quote and projecting it on to the audience, how the writers(and Mulgrew of course) might wish to satisfy that audience, and finding a balance long term w/out jumping any sharks.

Another way to put is the saying "9/10ths of the joy is found in anticipation."
Chakotay and Janeway had a special relationship, even intimate. They never became lovers, but we may be better for it.
