Game The Most Disliked Jeffrey Combs Appearance, 2025 Edition

THE OBJECTIVE: A sudden-death elimination game in which we remove our personal favorite episodes/movies from a themed list, until we arrive at the episode that is, if not the worst, at least the most disliked.

It's a framework to say positive things about episodes from across the franchise.

THE RULES: Below is a list of DS9, VOY, ENT, & LD episodes in which Jeffrey Combs appears as one of his many characters.

Eliminate/save your favorite, or the one you deem the ‘best' of what currently remains.
Post something you enjoy about the episode you are saving, and copy-and-paste the list with your choice removed.

You can use any standard you like to judge which option is "best." You can save episodes for being widely recognized “best Trek” classics, or for idiosyncratic qualities that no one appreciates but you.

As you get down the list, you might have to reach more and more for something to enjoy about an episode, and it's OK to eventually save episodes for being "less bad."

I'll kick us off with a save for "A Mathematically Perfect Redemption." I see why Tawny Cypress cites this as one of her favorite Lower Decks!

Normally I'm frustrated by tangent episodes that give the focus to a minor character. In the larger TV world, at least. I don't think Trek does this too much, but when I see "Whatever Prestige Streaming Show" has an episode coming up that's all the backstory of the incidental background maid or whatever, I have such an "UUUGGGHHHHH" reaction. I'm tuning in for the actual show, not the tangent examination of some background element of the show!

But this one just works for me somehow. Peanut Hamper is a hysterical character, Kether Donohue's vocal performance is inspired, and teaming her up with AGIMUS was a great idea. No matter how many times I watch this episode I laugh the whole time, and it's a strong character piece as well.

Not only is this an awesome episode, but Combs was such a great Vorta that the producers made them clones just so they can bring Weyoun back.

Saving "IN THE CARDS" next.

This was a damn near perfect episode. Such a simple premise... a young man wants to buy his dad a gift. This is one of those episodes that you can't help but smile every time. A truly feel good episode.

And Ben hugging Jake at the end... you feel like he's hugging you, too. This is easily a 10.

Saving "TACKING INTO THE WIND".

One of Ronald D. Moore's best scripts (which is saying something, considering how a vast majority of his episodes are good to great), this not only kept the final arc going, but it finished off TEN YEARS of Worf's Klingon arc, going all the way back to TNG season 3.

Excellent scenes for everyone, with two that truly stand out...

1. Ezri's Klingon Empire analysis.
2. Kira, Garak, and Damar when he finds out his family was murdered.

Easily a 10.

I don't care that it introduced the Ferengi so early in the timeline, ENT: "Acquisition" is FUN! Jeffrey Combs, Ethan Phillips, Matt Malloy and Clint Howard are great, the interrogation of Porthos is amusing, and Trip runs around in his underwear again, much to my enduring delight.
