Star trek Legacy

Kevin

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I just purchased Star trek Legacy on Amazon. is it any good? How about the Xbox live play?

I think the general opinion you'll get around here is it's mediocre at best. Controls are tough to get the hang of at first, but if you've got a good computer the graphics kick ass.

Here's a link to a thread with a bit more detail about it.

The Xbox version sounds much better than the PC version.

Either way it feels disjointed and rushed, IMO. Little replay value.

The Xbox360 version isn't bad. I found myself enjoying it. I will wait for its price to drop before picking up a copy, though.

The Xbox version is at least playable, although if it wasn't a Trek title, it would be a bargain bin game at best.

The PC game is pretty much a disaster, though - buggy, primitive ugly graphics on all but the newest turbo-charged machines, very poor gameplay.

I am disappointed as heck to hear such mediocre reviews of Star Trek Legacy. Sometimes I think they assign these projects to non-Trekkers. What these gaming companies need to do is hire about 20 Computer Gaming Specialists, all Trekkers, and tell them to design a game, then see what happens. I am getting so tired of all these lame Star Trek games being released.

The description of Legacy sounds like it would be an awesome game. Not that I can even play it, because my computer is shitty, but I guess its not worth buying until its cheap.

Legacy is kinda like Stargate SG-1. It's not very good. In some ways, it's downright horrible, but despite the general badness, it is kinda fun.

Actually, what they need to do is design a great, compelling, fun game with great gameplay. The fact that it has a Trek theme should be an awsome bonus for us Trek fans, but it should be a great game even for non-Trek fans.

Instead, there seems to be a longstanding notion that they can churn out derivative, poorly-designed clones of tired old game genres, and since the ships happen to look like the Enteprise, they'll be big hits because we idiot Trek fans will buy it regardless of the quality.

part of the problem the game was rushed out, it was suppose to be out sooner but it got put back until just before christmas (as it had to be out for christmas time) like KOTOR2 had to be out for christmas in the US.

Its really sad seeing fanboys defending the game just because its star trek. On another aforum everytime something bad is posted about the game, one biased fanboy comes out of lurking to defend the game saying everyone else's view is bullshit

its shame the game is fairly poor in places as with good AI and able to replay missions and a few other things it could of been a great game

It finally came for me and I kinda like it. I found some Guys on XBL who were playing it and they knew very little about star Trek. its a fun game and I got the hang of the controls pretty fast. (although i still suck) I couldn't hit the broad side of a Romulan bird of prey with a locked on photon torpedo.

I like it too. The gameplay was fun, the plot line spanning all 5 captains was cool, and the controls were an interesting challenge. No one can ever say this was a game that was dumbed down for the masses.I find it interesting that for all the griping about how starfleet command 3 was simplified for the masses, Legacy gets negativity for it's control difficulty.

The biggest negative however is that it took them two patches to clear up the access violation error. I was also disapointed that it took a modder to give us an ingame save feature. Those missions take a long time and every once in a awhile people have to take a piss or answer the phone.Overall I give this game a 4 out of 5 star rating.

I agree the X360 version is better than the PC version. The PC version is very slow and filled with bugs. It's similar to the trouble I had encountered when I played Armada. The PC version of Legacy need a power Gaming PC - IOW the latest graphics card, driver and mega tonnes of RAM - to run it. However I disagree on its replay value.

Bottom line - You will need time to get use to the controls. Otherwise the gameplay is not worthy of the software it was written with.

I'm having a lot of trouble liking the PC version. As mentioned above, it's slow and filled with bugs. And it handles very clunky when you talk about controls. I haven't really done a lot of playing on it since buying it because it's so frustrating!

I don't have Xbox live, so I do the skirmishes. I find the skirmishes alot more fun than the missions. In the skirmishes, you aren't as limited as you would be with the missions.

Even with the 2 patches installed I still get the "access violation error" message. :scream:

I've rented this game twice for the XBox360, and if I think about renting it again, I'm going to cave in and purchase it. I'm so weak....

I had the same problem, until finally in a fit of desperation, I updated my sound drivers...and then it worked!

Although the PC controls are still funky, and not mappable, your have to use W S A D, even if you hate it..
