NHL Play Off Prediction thread

As I said in a post a few days ago, I was hoping for Max Talbot to be the hero. He's been one of my favorite players for years, since his AHL minor-league days.

I like Crosby, Malkin, and Fleury, but the less-naturally-gifted-yet-scrappy players like Talbot are always fun to watch.

Congratulations Talbot, Congratulations Geno, and congratulations Pens!

I had a feeling that this would happens. I just felt. Congratulations to Pittburgh. To have two teams to win National Championships in the same year must feel good right now.

BTW: I'm a Red Wing fan and I'm feeling a dejected right now. :(

Nothing to feel sad about, datagal. The Red Wings are an amazing team who have built a remarkable dynasty. They'll be back next year. When my Penguins lost in the finals last year, I felt no shame, nor should you. Thank you for being such a good sport. :)

Does Pittsburgh have Pirate fans? It just seems like the city is such a great sports town but it's so sad that the Pirates are so bad. You have the Steelers, Penguins, and that's pretty much it and they both won championships in the same year. I guess the positive thing going for the Pirates is the baseball stadium looks nice.

^I'm a Pirates fan, although I say that with a brown paper bag over my head. Ironic that maybe the best NFL franchise (Steelers) is in the same city as arguably the worst professional sports franchise in history (the Pirates). With the Penguins being successful, 2 out of 3 aint bad!

I take my rage out on random strangers on the net. It makes you feel better, regardless of losing.

The Pirates are actually one of the more successful MLB teams financially. They manage to be just adequate enough to bring in plenty of fans and sell plenty of concessions and ball caps, without having to do anything crazy like waste money on good players. I joke a lot, but I'm serious on this one. One of my father's students even did a paper on it. They're sort of like "Springtime for Hitler" or Uwe Bol movies.

As for Max Talbot... Is there a Penguin fan alive who didn't like the guy even before the Playoffs? He's a goofy likeable guy off ice, but on the ice he's one of the smartest, most hard working guys around. Any other fans who watch the games on FSN Pittsburgh wonder if that girl in the BMW commercial will finally call him "Superstar" now?

^Talbot may never be a superstar but he comes up big in the big games. Did you hear Malkin poke fun at his (Talbot's) mediocrity? It was hilarious.

As for the Pirates' balance sheet -- do you have a source? I'd like to check it out.

All the Pens need to do now is get Colby Armstrong back. Colby and Max are two players cut from the same mold (not blessed with big talent, but blessed with big "hockey hearts".)

Wasn't Colby the original guy in those BMW commercials with that girl? Or was it both Colby and Max?

He ribbed him for having "bad hands". He certainly wasn't saying anything about mediocrity. Talbot isn't an all-star, but If he's mediocre, I'd love a team filled with mediocre players. He generates tons of scoring chances, so it isn't so bad that he blows a few.

Hearsay for my part, though from a trusted source who isn't prone to wild tales or flights of fancy. You'll just have to choose how many grains of salt to take with it. It's been a frequent accusation leveled at them over the years, at any rate.

EDIT--
Here you go. It's a few years ago, but it'll do. Eighth most profitable MLB team in 2005 (Indians were #1 ), while teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets operated deep in the red.

There was an ad with Colby, Max, and a couple of other players last season. I'll see if I can find it on Youtube.

EDIT--
Here's the first, with Armstrong, Talbot, Sarge, and Geno.

Ha Ha! I remember that one.

Thank god these guys have gainful employment in the NHL. They are embarrassingly bad actors. Even Geno was bad, and he didn't even say anything (that was before he knew English).

Although Max's acting skills have improved just a little (very little, actually) since that one.

He plays with heart. Hockey is a religion in Quebec and there's nothing more important than the cup. Fleury had an amazing game too. The last stop when he just jumped across the net was just spectacular. Congrats to all Penguins out there, it was great serie and amzing final.

Watching the replay, poor Fleury looks confused there at the end when his defensemen toss aside their sticks. The crowd pretty well drowned out the horn, so he looks back and forth between them for a second, clearly thinking "What the hell are you guys doing!?" before it dawns on him that he's won the game.

I'm not feeling any shame for my Red Wings, I'm feeling a little sad for the moment.
They will be back.

Pittsburgh deserves this. The Penguins played their asses off and got the Stanley Cup.

Right now, the Tigers are doing well.

That's why I goes to TNZ. It's good for the soul.

I almost felt the same as Fleury did...I knew there were only 6+ seconds of game left after that faceoff, but for some reason forgot about that and was a little surprised to see the game end when it did.

I guess I got caught up in the excitement of the last flurry (no pun intended) of shots.

I was in a bar for the game. When the final seconds ticked away, the place just erupted.

I'll be at the parade/rally on Sunday. Somehow, someway, I've got to see the Cup with my own eyes!

I am so envious of those of you who live in Pittsburgh, my home town. However, let me tell you, Richmond's weather is WAYYY better than Pittsburgh's! That's the only comfort I take.
