Just watched The Emissary. For the first time in what must be nearly 20 years. In fact it’s pretty much the only DS9 that I’ve rewatched in that period.
I was impressed by how well it holds up. As a pilot it has a lot of things to do, so it wisely pushes a few characters into the background to give us huge insight into Sisko, while setting the stage for the show with the claim the wormhole subplot.
Terry Farrell and Siddig El Fadil both look like rabbits caught in headlights, but otherwise the show feels ready to go by the time the credits roll. I really liked the fragmentary conversation Sisko had with the wormhole entity and how it was presented visually.
