Can't stand the sound of their voice.

They are a few actresses I dislike and I realise that the main reason I dislike them is that I don't like the sound of their voices. The ones that immediately come to mind are

1) Jennifer Lien - Kes's voice used to really annoyed me, I found Lien's voice less annoying in American History X.

2) Amanda Burton - she played Sam Ryan in the British show Slient Witness. I really started to enjoy the show after Amanda left.

3) Elisabeth Sladen i.e Sarh Jane Smith from Doctor Who. I have always said that Sarah Jane was my less favourite companion but I have come to realise that the main reason for this is Elisabeth Sladen's voice and basically there is nothing wrong with Sarah Jane herself. .

There are some voices I really like especially men. Some that immedicately spring to mind are

1) Michael Ansara
2) Sir David Attenborough
3) John Savage

Which celebrity voices do you hate, which do you like?

I don't really hate any voices, but there are some that I really like.

Male voices include:

Patrick Stewart
Sir David Attenborough
Christopher Lee
George Takei
Leonard Nimoy

Female voices include:

Natalie Portman
Angie Harmon
Sandra Bullock
Cate Blanchett

And for the record, Fran Drescher's voice doesn't bother me for some reason.

Can we get Fran Drescher off the table?

God yes. She bugs the hell out of me, even when she is talking in her normal voice. (The "Nanny" voice is a fictitious one, playing on her natural nasal quality for comedic effect.) She sounds like a bag of cats.

I also don't like:

Dakota Fanning
Heather Graham
Sarah Jessica Parker

I love:

Stockard Channing
Cate Blanchett
Kate Jackson
Bette Davis
Bonnie Hunt

I can't think of any men's voices that bug me, except maybe Richard Kind. However, I love:

Bruce Boxleitner
Ian McKellen
Hugh Jackman
Jean Reno

For some reason I am not fond at all of Jodie Foster's voice, it gets on my nerves immensely. Same thing goes for Hugh Grant.

On the other hand, Fran Drescher's is just fine. Go figure.

I do particularly like the voices of Sean Connery, Juliette Lewis, Ian McKellen, Gillian Anderson, off the top of my head.

Can't stand the sound of their voice.
There aren't many people I can think of whose voices I'd say I really can't stand, but Jerry Seinfeld is at the top of the list. Even Gilbert Gottfried in full grate mode isn't that annoying.

Voices I like (off the top of my head):

Lauren Bacall
Diana Rigg
Roscoe Lee Browne
Stacy Keach, Jr.
Ray Walston
F. Murray Abraham
Vincent Price
Bryn Terfel
Shirley Bassey
Orson Welles
Ken Nordine
Annie Lennox

I can not stand Rachael Ray's voice. Every time I hear it, it is like nails down the chalkboard to me

I do like deep sexy manly voices like Christian Bale or Hugo Weaving

Bill Maher, he's not an actor though. He's got this patronizing tone. Not as bad as Rush Limbaugh's though.

Kate Mulgrew's Janeway is fairly irritating.

Jerry Seinfeld.

Sally Struthers...that's it. Thread is over. Is there anyone more grating than her?

I'm in the same boat as you!

Jodie Foster has that twang, I can imagine myself cringing as she says words like world, girl, twirl, civilization, space and whatever else she said in Contact.

I also don't mind Fran Drescher's voice, though I can understand how some wouldn't

My husband can't STAND the mere sound of Niecy Nash's voice. Whenever I turn on "Clean House," her voice actually sends him scurrying out of the room. Her voice doesn't bother me at all.

Rachel Ray, on the other hand, drives me up a wall. Quit yelling, you raspy-voiced nitwit! Fran Drescher is another one that is like nails on a chalk-board. *shudder*

I LOVE a man with a beautiful voice: Alan Rickman, Ian McShane, Peter O'Toole---I just swoon over voices like that. I think that's why I love John Rhys-Davies so much. Give me a man with a great voice, and I could give a rat's ass what he looks like.

I hate the sound of my own voice. I don't know how anyone can put up with hearing me yap. I sound like a 45-rpm single played at 33. :(

That being said, I wish that my voice really sounded the way I hear it. Our voices sound different when we hear ourselves talk, vs. the way others hear us, I think it's because the sound waves bounce off the bones in our head and then come back to our ears. Anyway my voice *as I hear it when I talk* isn't that bad, it's the way OTHERS hear it that really grates. I wish I didn't sound like that...This is why I'm never uploading a vocal sample to this board. Y'all would start laughing or ralphing or both if I did. :(

Not an actor, but I can't stand James Blunt. Not only because of THAT song, but mostly because of that voice which reminds me of Alanis Morissette (whom I also normally can't stand).

On the other hand, I do like the voice of James Morrison (the singer).

I'm in agreement with a lot of the people here. Some which I do like are:

Sir Patrick Stewart
Sir Ian McKellen
Brian Cox (the actor*)
Ian McDiarmid (for the same reasons as Brian Cox, really)
David Tennant (which I just realised I actually sound a little bit like)
Kate Winslet
Lucy Davis (from the original The Office - by far the best female voice I have ever heard :adore:)
Michael Palin
Sir David Attenborough
Paul O'Grady (best camp Northener voice in the business - Alan Carr, take note)
Alan Rickman (why the guy still isn't knighted I don't know)
Naveen Andrews (who sounds a lot like Alan Rickman - he also does a great Alan Partridge impersonation :guffaw:)
Gary Oldman
Vincent Price
Laurence Olivier

However, I also love the voices of Jodie Foster and Holly Hunter. They have a certain something about them.

* as opposed to Brian Cox the particle physics professor, whose voice is actually pretty darn annoying.

My friend, you have TASTE!

Aside from “You're Beautiful” being one of the worst songs ever written, James Blunt's screechy tenor voice makes me want to rip both my ears off. There's nothing worse than a bad tenor. And Alanis Morissette's singing is more like whining on pitch.
. . . And for the record, Fran Drescher's voice doesn't bother me for some reason.
You wouldn't happen to be a Noo Yawker yourself, would you?

I've never liked anyone's voice as much as I like Patrick Stewart's. I don't really notice people's voices for the most part.
