Game The Most Disliked Majel Barrett Appearance, 2025 Edition

I think this run might have been better if it was best Lwaxana Troi appearance, ‘cause then you’d have an episode at least that focused on Majel.

She’s a side player, on the side of the sidelines in TOS. She may appear in Turnabout Intruder or And The Children Shall Lead, but Chapel is not what people remember those episodes for.

Bit of an odd round IMO. Guy lad to see this game come back though. I used to play back when I was a newbie.

If she's not Number One, I simply cannot tolerate Majel. I'll suffer her TOS Chapel moments, but I'm allergic to her tedious computer voice bits.....and Anthrax was my nickname for Troi's mom. Purple Poison was my friend's nickname for Troi. Doubly ejectable characters.

When the game started, I did wonder whether every episode with Barrett as the computer voice should be included which would have brought in the 2009 film. In the end, I suppose that would be just too background a role although the computer places a major part in TAS "The Practical Joker" and some of Barrett's appearances as Chapel seem just as "background".

I quite enjoyed Turnabout Intruder the last time I rewatched - Shatner was entertaining playing Lester.

The performances are marvelous, especially Sandra Smith who nails Kirk's temperament perfectly as much as William Shatner could play Lester, and there are even a couple of nice callbacks that complement the story instead of being it, partially due to being relevant to the flow of events on screen (Kirk's soul trying to prove he's inside another person's head.)

I think Janice was insane, and the idea this episode is sexist isn't quite right. Quite. ;)

I'm tempted to agree, but the story doesn't seem to know if Janice really was insane, was driven to insanity, or was faking it. Dialogue snippets all can point to any of those three possibilities, with later dialogue tripping over it all. The script lacked focus or actual reveal at the end, save for a line by Kirk of "if only--", which begs questions that don't help the script. The script is just going too much in too many directions, woolly and muddied, and no herder was there to clean it up and give it a proper direction to go in. Being late-season 3 and the show was already axed, nobody seemed to care...

...apart from the actors, who do get to showcase range, and show it they do. Various set-piece scenes, and the acting, do make it surprisingly entertaining, as Smith and Shatner readily showcase terrific acting skill. Without the acting, this would have been more than a dumpster fire's dumpster fire.
