What you'd like included

I would also like to see phaser's that shoot short bursts of energy instead of long stream's of it.
Or they continuously fire at a target (like a running man) and just keep firing until they they eventually strike him with the beam. If necessary by just waving the beam around.

In the early days I'd like to see a focus on elements that appeal to the core fan base. Meaning: those people who are going out of their way to spend $10/month to see Star Trek on a fledgling streaming service. Don't make the mistake of alienating the core fans in a ham-fisted effort to expand the market too early in the game. Let word of mouth and an excited fan base carry the show for a while.

Hm, what would I really like to see?

1) Alien cultures that are somewhat believable and aren't just humans with one extremely exaggerated trait. Ferengi and Klingons never actually felt alien to me. Instead they were caricatures of human societies that exaggerated one aspect like capitalism or honor in battle.
Explaining what I'd like to see instead isn't easy but "more of the same" would disappoint me.

2) An interesting look that isn't just "submarines in space" again. Make it modern, slick, scifi-looking, futuristic.

3) Believable relationships. Trek has usually been awful at showing relationships, love or sex. TNG basically showed people being single for seven years.

4) Good dialogue, because that would truly be a novel thing in Trek. Don't give us filler dialogue about qualithium containment reconstructors. But it's not just the technobabble that's annoying. Make conversations interesting, meaningful, fun.

5) An optimistic, progressive, liberal outlook. They don't have to beat us over the head with it in every episode but I want the show to have an optimistic and progressive tone.

6) Make it fun to watch. TNG is like comfort food for me, it's just nice to watch these people. I'm not saying Discovery can't be serious or gritty at all. But don't make everybody miserable, give us some light-hearted fun, too.

Toilet paper seems to be one of those things that won't change for centuries, it's like eating with forks and knives
Or eating with chopsticks in some of our cultures. Or using a piece of bread to pick up your food in other cultures. Or just using one's hands as in other cultures.

You might have a point there. BTW, what culture advocates for using bread to pick up your food? It seems pretty wasteful.

Pizza, burritos, hamburgers... a freaking tuna fish sandwich. Not to mention something like chapati served with aloo mutter.

It's a pretty universal thing.

ETA: Oh and then there's that whole thing about soup. "Soup," "sop," and "supper" all have the same etymology (more or less): essentially a meal where one dipped bread in a broth.

Doesn't say anything about using bread as utensil

Yes it does:
In Ethiopia in east North Africa, a bread called injera is made from a grain called teff.[17] This is a wide, flat, circular bread that is in a similar shape of a tortilla and is also used as a utensil to pick up food.

Since you're eating the piece of bread, I don't see what's "wasteful" about it.

No, bread is part of these meals, not a utensil, pretty weird that you thought so, ROFLCOPTER
Without the sesame bun, the two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions would get pretty messy.

Just because it's also eaten doesn't change the fact it's being as the instrument or container for delivering/serving a meal.

Think it through.

I have my burgers in a lettuce wrap instead of on a bun.
