You're seriously using Youtube as "research?"

Not to mention just about everything in the list is basically..."sounds creepy, amirite?" And none of it actually involves self-aware machines, just uncanny behavior by chatbots and the like.

When they are compilations of things that were actually said, sometimes even captured on tape, yes it IS research.

The point, which you seem to have missed, is that if the primitive proto-AIs we already have have already started to go off the rails (and they have, as I have documented), then what reason do we have to think that they will magically "fix" themselves if allowed to evolve futher?

They're registered on this BBS,
Are they? I'm aware of no one from the show's writing staff who is registered on Trek BBS. Perhaps you could point out who?

Indeed, the only person involved with the show in any way I'm aware of who is registered on Trek BBS is David Mack, but he's a creative consultant and has no role in story development.

You said they were registered in the Treklit forum. I wasn't aware one could register only in one subforum, and not the entire board.

I said Novel Authors and Editors were registered on this forum, NOT the show's writing staff, which is what we had been discussing. Do you even pay attention to the posts you're responding to or do you just have pre-decided points you want to make regardless of the content of the discussion at hand?

But so what if the novel authors can read this forum? They don't contribute storylines for the show and Lower Decks does not have any tie-in novels so therefore any story ideas posted in this forum won't be ruining their plans. And since the writers of IDW's Lower Decks comics aren't registered on Trek BBS, we're not ruining their ideas either.

Seriously, Nuance. Learn it.

^ As captivating as this tangent has been (:p), let this be the last post on the topic and let's all move on. Thank you.

Is it wrong for me to be happy for Mariner, working alongside an interstellar Indiana Jones and apparently off for a life of adventure?

Well, once I view it, I expect I'll have something to say on the subject. But it'll be posted there, not here.

10/10, easily.

Nice introduction to the Texas class - Yeehaw!

The plot twist on who was talking smack should have been easy, expect the plot content and flow still made the twist of Mariner being the one talking up the crew while everyone else badmouthed a surprise. Plus the twist-but-nontwist that she's out with the archaeology lady from a few episodes ago.

It was lovely to see the Breen - definitely formidable and no-nonsense.

A follow-up to the Symbiosis planet, at face value, might be a head-scratcher. The details of Arnara's turnaround are so well-done and what remains of Brekka is equally of interest, and I suspect might be resolved later on (I hope!) Definitely fits the mission statement of "Lower Decks", along with the style.

Also lovely to see continuity bits with Mariner's Andorian friend from a previous episode. (Will look up the title later but season 3 still continues to amaze with story and character quality.)

The show has always had really good animation, but even by season 3's elevated standards, there's something far and above.

Holy shit, wtf?! This is a comedy show - why am I so angry at Freeman and Jennifer right now?! Oh, I hope Mariner doesn't come back until mid-season four. Let her have some fun, sexy Indiana Jones adventures for a while and give the rest of the LDS crew a little more space to breathe. Then joyous reunion (with a little groveling on the part of some people) OR ELSE!
Aaaaah! I love this show so effin' much. :guffaw:

^^this

The show is renewed and while Mariner is one of my favorites, having characters do other things for a handful of episodes then make an equally robust comeback - LD has already handled much more with aplomb.

For a comedy, it really takes and blends so many genres and makes it look easy (we know it's not!) And, regardless of genre, it boils down to the characters. The show nailed it from day one, and when it's only gone up in quality -- the only times I've felt disappointed is because the plotting and characters deserved more time (e.g. the bird episode a couple episodes back easily could have held its own if it had another 15 or 20 minutes.)

Jennifer and Beckett (Jennkett? Beckiffer) was a short-term thing... but I do wonder if they will be revisited...

The reporter will be Lucy Lawless, and a Cylon.

Mmm, a lawless Cylon

Hmm: a study in prejudices. A reporter looking for something to sensationalize. Freeman expecting Mariner to unwittingly betray the ship. Everybody expecting the Onarans to be in trouble.

USS Aledo, Texas class. Visions of M-5 dancing in my head.

Migleemo in command. That went over well.
