Spock and Savik

A Spock/Savik child

  • Would have been too 'soap opera' like. Last thing we need is Spock Jr.

I had hoped, when Savik was introduced in TREK II, that she would have turned out to be Spock and the female Romulan Commander's child. Of course that was all gutted when Spock had sex with Savik in TREK III. How many of you wish that their 'implied' sex scene had resulted in a child?

I imagine Spock decided that logically, safe sex would be the better option. :)

If it was true, how would Saavik have got to the Federation?

It would have made an interesting comparison with Kirk and David.
Maybe they could of introduced a child of McCoy's - with Natira (? the woman he met in For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky) as the mother....

Sorry - don't really like the idea.

I think it would have been a terrible idea.

Truly terrible.

I know Nimoy wanted it to happen, but I never really imagined they had sex in TSFS to be honest. I don't know how you get from "finger rubbing" to sex. To me, it looks a non-sexual like a way of controlling his urges.

I just cannot understand how having sex with a rapid-ageing teen reincarnation of a dead vulcan would be the "logical" thing to do... :vulcan:

Massive missed opportunity. It would have introduced a possible new character for future Treks. Trek has always been a space adventure with strong emphasis on the characters and their relationships. A pregnant Saavik had so much new story line embedded within and a chance to develop relationships even further. It would have shown how willing Saavik was to sacrifice for Spock. It would have created a secret/relationship between she, Kirk and McCoy. It would have given Spock's parents a grandchild whom they would have wanted and gratefully raised. Yet it offered the opportunity for Spock to remain in outer space with his crew for years not knowing.

They missed many opportunities never introducing McCoy's daughter and possibly grandchildren. I also thought Kirk should have married & divorced when he had a desk job -- between the TOS and TMP era and possibly fathered a child who would not just get killed off as usual. All chances for future characters which they missed out upon.

Too soap operaish? They followed similar story lines in TNG giving Worf & Troi children -- and those characters were not nearly as popular and nobody cares about them or their love child.

The development of wonderful characters and their relationships to each other with the background of dramatic events, adventure, discovery, war etc would have added to what made ST great. Instead it went toward more of a Star Wars & battles between future fantasy groups akin to "Lord of the Rings" which gets old fast for me.

Ummm...I agree. It would appear that the only one who has a child, since David died, is the only gay character on the show. Not to say that is a bad thing...but very interesting..

Actually I think the other gayish character, Sulu. has a daughter in some type of spin off (The New Voyages).

Here is a funny interview:

Yep, Sulu was who I was referring to. Malora was in Generations. So, since David died, the only child from the TOS crew we know about 'living' beyond the TOS movies was Malora..

TNG could have introduced the Spock/Savik daughter..that would have bee far better, I think, than the limp UNIFICATION which, I think, was far inferior to Relics

I think that since Merritt Buttrick was gay (and, sadly, died from AIDS), it's been widely speculated David Marcus was gay.

Which is fine, but not canonical.

Suggested by people who struggle with the line between reality and fantasy?

And Sulu isn't gay. Gay actor doesn't have to = gay character.

The same way that William Shatner isn't really a starship captain,

I'd never heard that. And there's cut scenes from TWOK that have David and Saavik flirting, so the character wasn't written that way.

And for that matter, George Takei = GAY ≠ Hikaru Sulu = GAY.

When are people going to learn to separate the actor from the character? I suppose folks in here came away from Philadelphia thinking Tom Hanks was a flaming queen.

Duh...I think we do know this!! We merely pointed out that the character Sulu is the only one we know of that has a child, and he is played by a gay actor. That is why I called him "gayish" NOT "gay". Mirror Sulu had the heterosexual hots for Uhura. This discussion is about the most popular characters, and their lack of offspring. IMO an area they never explored with the most popular iconic characters - a major loss and chance for further character and relationship development and introducing future characters who would be readily accepted.
