What is with that maroon jacket and outfit? Great variety of uniforms though. But, seriously, apparently Burnham is in maroon mode.

As a rule, I don't tend to aim so low as to compare any uniform with TMP's unless I cannot help but notice an actor's bulge.
The uniform I'm guessing is a dress uniform.
Admiral Vance also has a similar one, but not in that colour.

Yeah, a really confusing set of clothing. Burnham has three different uniforms:
- Maroon fabric "priest outfit" (dress uniform)
- Maroon leather jacket (field uniform?)
- The red uniform, which I presume is the "normal" one.
It's a very interesting style choice, so I will be curious to here the reason why.
Overall, I am liking a lot of the variety of uniforms, from Vance's, to the new tactical outfits. Discovery has done a great job of fleshing out uniforms for different jobs, rather than one size fits all missions.

Someone on twitter likened Burnham's leather jacket to Clark Kent's in the final season of Smallville and now I can't unsee it.
Reminded me more of Jean Gray's from X-Men: The Last Stand. Regardless, it is an interesting look and I'm not sure what to make of it.
Even though it's the 32nd Century and not the late-23rd: DSC is showing me how the TMP Uniforms could eventually become the TWOK Uniforms. There's enough time between the movies that they could've transitioned from one to the other with intermediate uniforms.

The image of what appears to be a new communications officer also seem to confirm the rumors that Ronnie Rowe Jr is either not in the season or has a reduced role.
That might be because he is in a new drama series called The Porter coming out next year.
He supposedly has a major role in it which might have made him not available for DISCOVERY.
