Rare Treks: Official but Obscure

1. Canon is whatever CBS says it is at any given moment.
2. Fuck Canon. Just tell me some imaginative stories.

1. Actually, canon is whatever the people currently holding Star Trek’s IP say it is. That’s CBS right now, but in five years it might be Disney. Or Byron Allen. Or me. Yeah, that’s right. I’m rich enough to buy Star Trek if I wanted to. So screw you, Byron.
2. Check out Prodigy.

I loved the ships from Klingon Academy...there are 3D prints of those?

Canon should not be the high-watermark for whether something is worthy or not. None of it is ‘real’ anyway.

I think these little side-jaunts are interesting in and of themselves. Before seeing this thread I never knew that Q went full Borg for a game, for example. Seeing John DeLancie in full Borg make up is really cool.

Each and every one of these little sideshows says something about Star Trek and where it was in the culture at the time. I think they are, without exception, quite fascinating.

Fun topic.

Hope you can dig out more stuff like these clips.

Was there any 'live action' footage in the even older games or exhibits before the Vegas one?

Thanks. I'm nearly certain that I've found all of the Rare Treks (although I don't have a complete recording of "Star Trek Live" and have nothing of "Orion Rendezvous," Data's Federation Science videos, and the unreleased "Borg Q-Uest" except one still and the box), but I plan to also make a list of Star Trek skits such as "Star Trek V: The Restaurant Enterprise" and "The Love Boat: The Next Generation" and another for commercials and infomercials with a Trek theme or starring Trek actors.

No other videogames have any live-action scenes, although a few more do have voice acting from onscreen actors, such as Shattered Universe (2004), which stars Takei and Koenig as Mirror Universe versions of Sulu and Chekov; and Star Trek (2013), which features the voices of the seven main Kelvin actors. I also plan to make a complete list of these.

Also, The Transinium Challenge has some surprisingly lifelike animations for a 1989 videogame which I think were made by digitizing scenes from The Next Generation.

That Powergen advert is burned into my mind from childhood. I loved that console in the TNG engineering room, when I was a kid it looked so cool! It was like, "yeah mad shit is still happening to the TOS crew between movies, you're just not seeing most of it"

Two articles.

Just yesterday, I discovered a German-exclusive Rare Trek in the form of a very short live performance (badly subtitled in English by YouTube's AI) followed by a short film (helpfully officially subtitled in English) before a rollercoaster ride which launched in 2017.

"Operation Enterprise" is the nineteenth produced video Rare Trek out of twenty overall.

The soundtrack was released on compact disc.

Along with the Prometheus novel trilogy—released in German in 2016 and then in English translations and unabridged English audiobooks over the next couple years—this is one of just four official Star Trek stories created in a foreign language.

Now, I think I really have found them all (although "Orion Rendezvous" and "Borg Q-uest" remain completely unavailable and "Live" and Shriv's Stream partly so).
