Rank the seasons

Now that the show has finished airing, how would you rank the seasons?

For me:
  1. Season 2
  2. Season 3
  3. Season 5
  4. Season 4
  5. Season 1
Seasons 2 and 3 are very close, but I like the Pakled arc far more than the yet another Badmiral one. Season 5 turned out to be exactly 50/50, but wow did it close strong.

Season 4 wise, I didn't like either the VGR Tuvix parody or the season arc with Nick Locarno and the Genesis devices, and found the middle episodes to be largely mediocre and unmemorable, so it ranks near the bottom.

Season 1 -- closes with three excellent episodes, but the launch is brutal. So brutal that it's a heavy lift to get fans to stick around and give the show time to at least make a lot less unforced errors.

Season 2 and 3 are almost interchangeable for me, but Season 3 made me love the California Class fleet of ships and Shax got to eject the warp core. That puts it over the top.

My ranking is:
  1. Season 2 - I'd put half the season in my top 10 list, with First First Contact as my #2
  2. Season 1 - Crisis Point and No Small Parts drag this whole season up for me.
  3. Season 3 and Season 4 - Both had their good points and flaws. 3 had Crisis Point 2, 4 had T'Lyn
  4. -------------
  5. Season 5 - Lower Decks lost some of its charm and became a goofy sitcom

3
2
4
5

I think S1 was fantastic and in the argument for best first season after TOS S1.

What's the sample size of all these fans that you introduced to the show ?
Interesting framing and phrasing of the question. This is based on how people like Trekyards have tried to get Star Trek fans to give the show a chance despite the rough opening, and how other reviewers panned the show on initial release.

How'd you rank the seasons?

Your own phrasing made it sound like you were speaking for all fans.
Just as many were hooked from the first episode and I think you are framing your own opinion as the majorities opinion.

In general when people talk about fans, "some" or "many" are implied, not "all".

"Many" can mean pretty much anywhere between 33% and 66% of a larger group. So many people could have both been hooked by the first episode, as well as repelled by it.

That said, based on the reaction on various Star Trek review sites and YouTube, a majority (>50%) of the pre-existing Star Trek fanbase was turned off my the first STLD episode.

I think it’s very difficult to say what any percentage of fans feel. The internet, in its current incarnation, is very specifically made to isolate us all into our own little corners. Yes, there are some very negative, profit-driven, AI-enhanced reasons for this but there are also “finding my people” and “curating my online experience” reasons as well. If one has the perception of Trekkies/Trekkers/Trek fans as being full of unfriendly gatekeepers who will shout your opinion down if you misspell an obscure only-seen-on-screen-for-35-seconds alien race, one might seek to avoid conventional Trek spaces.

If certain fans avoid places like BBSs/Subreddits/forums, popular YouTube channels and lauded review sites, their opinions might not be known by fans in those places. Such fans may congregate on online places particularly popular with a specific age group, language base, cultural subgroup or ideological identity. Fans on Tumblr, Discord, TikTok, Bluesky, Pillowfort, Instagram, Mastadon, Weibo (and the list goes on and on and on) may have little interaction with the fans in conventional Trek spaces and vice-versa.

I can see some of that, but YouTube creators do respond to audience demand and feedback. Watch counts are public, so you can gage demand for even positive reviews for various projects.

Most YouTube creators are full of shit and will say whatever they think they need to say in order in gain more views. Their actual opinions are secondary. Catering to whatever online mob decides to give them any level of attention is primary.
