Mass Effect: ANDROMEDA

Meh, a Reaper in your squad would end up being about as powerful as Jack in ME2 (compared to Jack as portrayed in ME2 cutscenes), because LOL BALANCING.

There's no guarantee that Catalyst-Shepard (especially renegade Catalyst-Shepard) won't go all homicidal thanks to an existential revelation about the fleeting nature of existence or some-such. That's not managed, that's a Sword of Damocles.

Plus renegade Shepard in the control ending pretty much goes on an "all who oppose me shall be crushed" rant, so yeah sucky place for the galaxy.

Plus synthesis is kind of squicky seeing as you pretty much violate the bodies of everyone in the entire galaxy.

I really hope the reapers aren't in it at all, been there done that, they suck now.

I agree.

New Galaxy and new dangers.

While I liked my little idea I think we'll be seeing new things.

Hopefully the game won't suck like most AAA titles have in the last year or so from what I have been hearing.. Consolitis seems to be a disease most games get today.

I wonder if this is going to be open-world like DA:I? Also, would be fun to truly be able to choose who you want as part of your crew based on explorations and quest completion and alignment, rather than a predetermined selection based on where you are in the story.

Besides, MEA can't be an open world game since that would restrict it to just the one world, no? ;)

I am curious to see just how big they can push the planetary environments. Just in terms of scale, some of them may have to dwarf the Hinterlands just so the Mako has enough room to cut loose.

Oh please no Mako that thing was horrible, well in the first game. It was not in the 2nd game but we had that even worse hovercraft thing. All that tech and that's the best idea they could create in that fictional universe..

Only if they fix the horrible driving of the Mako and ditch the stupid hovercraft thing.

I do wonder how this will fit with the chosen ending of the original trilogy, whatever that was (are they going to declare one canonical?). I think that some matters - the way in which the trilogy ends, particularly - are simply too large and have too many attendant implications to be vague about, and I'm wondering how they're going to keep this one inherently compatible with the personalized version of what came before - or if they won't be too concerned about that. Is this considered a potentially alternate reality from your three-part game? I assume it must be; that is, it picked an ending to base this future off of (you're either glowing green or you're not, Shepard obviously didn't pick the fourth "let everybody die" option)? Since the krogan are apparently still around in some form (we see one in that trailer), will this game, if it's set in the distant future as seems to be hinted, thereby require a "past" in which the genophage was cured, either during the Reaper War or at some point after? Unless they're going to be incredibly vague about how the krogan are doing.

I'll be helping report on this game via its Known Features Thread on the official forums and an associated twitter press. I'm not advertising (I guess it sounds that way though...) but rather, just saying, I'll be keeping a constant ear to the proverbial ground on MEA so if anyone ever has questions feel free to hit me up.

The developers are going as far as to take a look at the exceptional handling of a pure racing series such as parent company EA's Need for Speed and possibly even coordinating with them so as to get some hot tips on how to make handling the Mako not suck. I wouldn't worry too much about a repeat of the first game in this regard.

I fucking love Mass Effect but the music didn't work for me at all. Glad it'll only be in the trailer.
If they're really going for exploring new worlds then I hope they'll go back to the ME1 kind of music which really created that alien mood and made you feel a little uneasy at times.

ETA: Why the hell does the armour have a glowing smiley on the rear side. Ugh! °_°

I think it's safe to say the Johnny Cash song was just for the teaser. It was actually a nice bit of misdirection; I watched it live and it certainly caught me out. I saw what I thought was some new western game footage and stopped paying attention. Then the screens started flipping and there's a bloke in a helmet---and oh my god it's Mass Effect!!! ;)

From everything they've said it looks like they are trying to recapture that sense of exotic grandeur that was one of the man appeals of the first game but mostly absent from the sequels and even if it handled like a rocket propelled shopping trolly, the Mako was a big part of that.

Bioware have said they'll be at SDCC, so they'll probably have a little something to show there. Don't expect anything of any real substance until the end of the year though (November 7th at the earliest) remember this game is still a good 18 months out and that's assuming the release doesn't get pushed back until Q1 or Q2 of 2017, which is what usually happens.

DAI wasn't really open world. It was just like DAO, except the zones were a lot bigger.

Oh, see, I still haven't played it and was just going by the way it was hyped up. Still, I'm imagining that had a lot to do with the fact that it was a cross-gen game rather than fully current-gen, and even if it just means more planetside exploration full of unique areas to explore, not like the Mako mind you, then that would at least be an improvement. I always found it ironic that most of the level design felt closed-up given the theme of exploration throughout the games.
