John Adams on HBO

Anyone following this fascinating show? I'm not even American, but I just love historical political drama, and I find John Adams captivating and intelligent. And the accents btw, are great!

I only caught the first few parts of this, and WOW, it is just fantastic. It's fascinating stuff. I love Paul Giamatti and he really shines in this.

I'm hoping they release this on DVD soon, so I can catch all the parts I've missed.

Jefferson has dominated the history of this era far, FAR, too much.

I guess this makes Adams Keith Richards or something...

Am I the only one who has trouble liking the titular character? I know Adam's arrogance is historically accurate but it doesn't exactly make great television.

I saw one episode at my HBO-subscribing sister's house (Adams and Franklin and their ahem contrasting diplomatic styles in Paris, great stuff) but I'll wait for the whole thing on DVD. That episode I saw went too fast. Seems like they're trotting thru his whole life pretty quickly. Did the revolution actually end in that episode? Wasn't that like the third episode???

The first two were very engaging, but I'm starting to feel as they go on, that perhaps they could have condensed it down a little. It's not a bad show, it just seems to drag a bit; And there's still four more to go. Maybe if it aired like Roots or Shogun, do five, and bam get them aired in a week. Is it strange at all that my favorite episode thus far was the one with the Continental Congress debating whether or not to declare independence? It was pretty much an hour and a half of just debating, with some small snippets of the goings-on at the Adams house, but I was completely into it.

Seconded. The 2nd one was my favourite as well. It's really interesting to see how close a call it really was. And I applaud the makers for not portraying the only delegate who refused to vote in favour of independence as an evil onesided man.

Yeah, that was why I initially found it so engrossing, that's the actual key historic event and pivotal moment in Adams' life. The rest is just him becoming vice president, president and dying; Oh and he loved his wife. They could have just made a movie out of the first two parts, and given us the rest in a write up before the closing credits. Though I'm probably just being overly cynical. The mini is based on a biography of the mans entire life, and so far it's not exactly unbearable. Besides at the very least, it's a fascinating look at colonial times.

I've been watching it for the last few weeks and I love it. I was a big fan of the book and they've done a great job adapting it to the big screen.

The second segment was my favorite as well. They could have done an entire series on the Continental Congress and Revolution. I hope they do one of these days. While I agree the Continental Congress is the pivotal moment in his life, I'm very much looking forward to the next two segments. You've got the Washington presidency coming up, the Quasi-War with France, the feud with Hamiliton, the less-than-honorable Alien and Sedition Acts, and the unraveling of his friendship with Jefferson. I say we're in for some pretty good stuff.

I've seen the first three parts--I'll agree with some of the other posters who enjoyed part 2 the most. While Adams and Franklin in Paris (part 3) was entertaining, it was not nearly as engrossing as the second part.

I feel so ignorant about history. I am enjoying the series, but the look at how the Colonials lived during this time is amazing. I think, was it the last episode, when Giamatti smiled and his teeth looked so yellow and rotten was huge surprise.
