I don't like this news about SNW season 3 from Screen Rant

The only reason Disco got more than ten episodes a season was because it had a co-production deal with Netflix for its first four seasons. The fifth season did not have that, nor did any of the other shows which is why they only have ten episodes per season.
Also: production costs have massively increased across the whole industry since Discovery's debut nearly a decade ago. And especially since the pandemic.

iirc the first 2 season had more episodes added after they were originally announced with less.
In the case of the first season, two extra episodes were added, but that was only because they made the decision to make the Shenzhou storyline a two-part episode rather than the original intent of having it play out as a flashback storyline throughout the first half of the season. In the second season, one extra episode due to them getting overzealous while writing the finale.

I'm glad they abandoned the idea of piecemealing Michael's backstory throughout the season and went with something more linear. Interesting that they did that, given Disco's over-reliance on the mystery box format in later seasons.

IIRC, the main reason they abandoned that plan was because they found inserting the flashback scenes was hurting the narrative flow of each episode, then Paramount told them they couldn't have any flashback scenes in the Harry Mudd's Groundhog Day episode in order to make that one as standalone as possible, so they finally decided it was easier to run the Shenzhou storyline as a two part episode and open the series that way.

I never liked that they made harry mudd a murderer in STD even if it was a groundhog day affect episode. He really was ok with murdering. The original Harry Mudd while a jerk never really resorted to outright murder as I recall.

We're introduced to a Harry Mudd that's an unabashed sex trafficker that has no compunction about watching the Enterprise burn up in the atmosphere in order to get what he wants.

Pretty sure that's a man that could easily commit murder.

If you look carefully at Mudd's conduct in TOS, he was a resentful sociopath who would do anything. That the writers chose to save the heroes from the most dire consequences of his plots (even writing one of them as a comedy) and Carmel played him with such charm doesn't obviate what he was doing.

"Leo Walsh, who was to be my captain on this trip, passed away suddenly."

Hmm...

I love how so many people scream bloody murder anytime Spock gets a new sibling, but when there's an obvious dot to connect, people want there to be yet another unknown sibling.

Also, Harry Mudd was portrayed as a sex trafficker who was more than willing to let The Enterprise crew rot. I don't have any problem with him being depicted as a cold-blooded murderer.

Spock is the Scott Summers of the Trek universe. Cyclops was introduced as an orphan in X-Men in the 1960s. Then suddenly he had a brother, Havok. Then Mr. Sinister said there was another brother, who after over a decade of speculation was revealed as Gabriel Summers. Then writer Fabian Nicieza insisted on having his original Summers brother idea added into canon (despite the Gabriel Summers story overriding it by giving no timeline room for another pregnancy by Cyclops' mom) by adding another story where Adam-X/X-Treme is Cyclops' brother from a bizarre DNA lab experiment using the DNA of Cyclops' mom and the Shi'ar emperor.

Writer Chris Claremont got in on the act by having Gambit be another Summers brother in X-Men the End, claiming Gambit was created in a lab using Summers DNA. Another old X-Men writer claims that he intended for Apocalypse to be yet another Summers brother, born of an affair by Cyclops' dad and then being sent thousands of years into the past into ancient Egypt.

I'm probably missing a few Summers brothers even after this writeup. :p

PROBABLY JUST MY OPINION! So far I have loved SNW season 1 and a few episodes of season 2, but it has now started to drop off. I feel that things have just been getting worse since episode 1, which felt like traditional "Star Trek". Captain Pike is currently my favorite captain, and he especially stood out to me (positively and basically made the second season for me) when I forced my self to watch DSC seasons 1 and 2 just to know what happened before SNW and had to endure Michael Burnham's terrible character arc.

Samson 1 had only 2 episodes that sucked: "Lift Us Where Suffering May Not Reach" because it was sad, followed by "The Elysium Kingdom" which wasn't a bad episode, but I didn't like it. Honorable mention is "The Serene Squall" for having a non-binary main antagonist, no need to force that on us please when that kind of thing should be left in the bedroom and no one cares.

Now I feel SNW is becoming more trouble than it's worth, especially since now I don't like quite a few episodes in season 2. "Subspace Rhapsody" is among the worst I've ever seen, though it was funny at parts which only redeems it little (I dare say Star Trek should have a serious tone with some light laughs thrown in such as "The Trouble With Tribbles", not be a comedy like this). The same goes for "Those Old Scientists", attempts to be too funny. Not a fan over Lower Decks from what I have seen. "Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow" ruins the Romulans because La'an sees them when no one should have to this point (though Pike did as well, but I think he can get away with that because he might just forget the visuals and instead just remember the events after the vision like some people do in other movies). Finally, "Hegemony ruins the Gorn for me because it now makes them the main enemy of SNW. Star Trek TOS, despite still not really having Canon from developing it still (and getting retconned several times of course by new trek shows) made it clear the federation had never encountered the Gorn like this before. This skirmish nearly turns into an all out war from what the season 3 episode 1 teaser shows.

Season 3 is not looking good, with the characters becoming Vulcan in the first ever teaser for season 3. And they're looking to diverge even more and make Star Trek "Not Star Trek" by sticking to classic themes. If anything, SNW should be working to stick with and get back to the feel and similar themes of Star Trek: The Original Series, because it takes place right before. This includes SNW now clearly becoming a MUCH more serialized show, though having a new event every episode things carry over too much. SNW is going downhill for me, and I really want to see them "improve". The very first episode, convirntly called "Strange New Worlds" was absolutely perfect, one of the best Trek episodes I have seen thus far from Kelvin Movies, TOS, TAS, TOS movies, TNG season 1, Trials and Tribblations, First Contact, Voy seasons up to 3, and DSC seasons 1 and 2. I just hope SNW "gets better" and much more like TOS episode atmospheres and feels.
Screen rant has a vested interest in making you read its clickbait.
