Could Trek XI be the Bring Back Kirk movie?

PDX Trek

I was thinking that if the Romulans are going back to kill Kirk, and Spock follows them into the past and it creates a "2nd Timeline", could it be possible that Spock ends up saving Kirk from his fate on Veridian III as well?

Nimoy says that the script is good, Shatner is not making a real fuss about not being in it. I think they are pulling one over on us here.

Could it be that the Shat may be at the end of this movie (a cameo) or perhaps in the next one or two? I mean if this movie is supposed to appeal to the fanbase and general public, not to mention the mythic value of the hero dying and being ressurcted, and a timeline change as well, isn't it possible?

Have I drunk too much NyQuil?

I really need a life...

:vulcan:

As I recall the BBK trailer was also a Royal Rumble between characters from all five series. So that's a definite no based on the TOS or bust casting so far...

Thanks Temis, the green liquid did the trick...

...now how can we go about bringing back Darth Vader?

Damn that Jager is good... :guffaw:

BTW - I have never seen the BBK trailers... I avoided them...

God I miss coming home after school to watch the old boy do his magic on the Klingons and Orion slave women...

*SIGH* He is dead, isn't he? :(

I had no idea he was bisexual (and ADD, apparently). Must be those director's cuts. ;)

Technically, I think it already is -- Kirk is in the movie, Shatner (afaik) isn't. Stop confusing the actor with the role. They are bringing back Kirk, as a cadet, a new captain, and pimp, just not as reboot of the Generations issue.

Personally, I don't care if Kirk is dead, I think they could have come up with something better than dropping a bridge on him, but everybody goes sometime.

And to original poster -- I recommed rum and coke. heavy on the rum BTW.

PDX Trek, I have to say I personally would like that to happen. Why the studio, the actor or writers thought falling off a bridge would be an appropriate end for a character who has saved the universe on more than one ocassion is beyond me. Kirk might as well been hit by a bus!

As a Trek fan I wouldn't be oppose to the Trek universe being turned on it's ear with reality at the end of the film being nothing like we know it today.

You may now start pelting me with rotten tomatoes...

I agree with what was said up thread. Technically Kirk is back, it's William Shatner who isn't. There's a difference.

Personally, I hope that they don't pull a fast one to "Bring Kirk back" like that. Shatner is not a young man anymore. He's in pretty good shape for a man of his age (weight issues aside)... he doesn't look his age. But he's not going to play Kirk for the next forty years.

I wish that they'd gone out on ST-VI and not brought him into "DeGenerations" at all. The story didn't require him, it was a trick, a gimmick... a way for the producers to "kill off" the competition between "the old" and "the new" (or so they thought). But it was NOT a meaningful part of the story... at all. It was pointless, and I'd have rather just had him "ride off into the sunset" at the end of VI.

SO... 'spose that they "bring Kirk back" in this movie. MAYBE Shatner does one more. It won't be "action" because, bluntly stated, he's OLD. It won't be ROMANCE, or adventure... you just can't pull that off when you're in your 70s or 80s. Even if you're in perfect shape for your age, the audience won't want to see it.

So, I guess... I have to think, "what's the point?" Bringing Kirk back to life, just so he can die again in the next movie or the next one after that at best? Or have Shatner die before he can do another one? And have the movie(s) where he IS back be... um... not popular with anyone but the hardcore fans?

No... I love the character of Kirk. I grew up with him being my hero. I enjoy watching the original shows. But I don't really want to see Shatner play Kirk again unless someone CLONES Shatner.

I'd actually rather not see much more of Kirk at all... have this movie be a "one last time, covering all the bases" Kirk story, and then give us NEW characters.

I'd love to see McKenzie Calhoun, played by Nathan Fillion... there's still enough open space in that character's life for us to enjoy watching him.

I'd love to see an all-new character... in the same vein as Kirk but NOT KIRK HIMSELF.

It's a big galaxy. Claims that nothing else would be interesting are bogus. The stuff we got that wasn't interesting wasn't that way because it wasn't KIRK, it was uninteresting because it wasn't STAR TREK (it was "new-Trek"). The further that "new-Trek" drifted from Star Trek, the worse it was... and the closer it got to the original stuff, the better it was.

In my opinion, obviously... ;)

Hey....maybe Kirk will be brought back and die a more worthy death! I really don't see Shatner playing Kirk anymore either.

PDX... Don't you mean Bring Back Shatner? Bringing back Kirk is a foregone conclusion.

Not necessarily.

Featuring Kirk as a character is one thing.

Bringing Kirk back to life after his death in "Generations" or re-writing history so he doesn't die in "Generations" is a very different thing.
