What were some of the best scenes, sequences or moments in the films? Besides the TUC Boobie, I mean. ;) I've come to realize that some of my favorite moments actually come from some of my least favorite Trek films.

For example, TMP is not one of my favorites overall, but the scene when Kirk is re-introduced to the Enterprise and given and exterior tour by Scotty has to be one of my favorite sequences in any Trek film. Kirk is approaching his bride in a second wedding, this time officiated by Mr. Scott. And what a beautifully done scene. I was thinking about this on the way to a meeting this morning as I was listening to the TMP score. "The Enterprise" is one of my favorite cuts from all of the scores. This time, the moment when the cymbal crashes and Kirk (and the audience) come face to face with Enterprise for the first time in years, brought a tear to my eye and gave me chills, and not for the first time. It's a beautiful scene, breathtaking music, and wonderfully acted by Shatner even though there were no words during that sequence.

Off hand, "Stealing the Enterprise" sequence in Star Trek III ranks as a favorite.

As flawed as VI is, it never gets old seeing Captain Sulu saying "Target that explosion and fire!" and then Eidleman's score climaxes, Kirk chimes in with his own order to fire (that sounds beautifully incredulous, almost like he's reprimanding somebody "Fire already, wtf are you waiting for?!")

I don't think there's a better performance in any of the movies than Spock's death scene in II, but I can't say I consider it a favorite moment.

But a personal favorite moment for me came in Star Trek V -- the first Trek I saw in theaters -- when Captain Kirk refused Sybok's mind meld, saying that he doesn't need a reminder of when he turned right but should have turned left, and noted how he needs his pain.

First, I thought it was nice to see that Kirk hadn't forgotten the lessons of "The Enemy Within"... But mainly it taught me, at the ripe old age of 11, something about what it means to be human.

I also love the shuttle tour around the Enterprise in TMP, as well as the psychedelic light show journey through the V'Ger cloud later on. Pure visual art. :cool:

I don't think I have a favorite moment from ST: TMP. Not even the Enterprise reveal. I much prefer TWoK reveal. When I think of the first film's one, I think of this review:

ST II: TWoK
Of course the glory shot of the Enterprise leaving the moorings and the dialogue of the heading, culminating in the burst of orchestra as the impulse engines fire and the ship sails away. The whole attack on the Enterprise. Kirk looking over at Spock's chair and realizing he's not there and the race to find him, with Horner's music tugging at your heart. There were other parts but I didn't want to spend forever typing.

ST III: TSfS
It's been many, many years sicne I've seen it, but the scenes I recall liking: the explosion of the Grissom. The whole stealing of the Enterprise, replete with the weird Excelsio captain and his riding crop. And Kirk kicking the Klingon in the head, "I ... have had ... enough ... of YOU!". And the explosion of the Enterprise, followed by it burning in the atmosphere.


ST IV: TVH
Spock and the computer on Vulcan. Chekov being questioned. Chekov beign rescued from the hospital. OF course the "Nuclear wessels" scene and the "Hello, computer" scene. And I can't forget the the exchange between Kirk and the cabbie. The whalling ship hitting the Bird of Prey and their reaction when it decloaks.

2 Old School Uhura scenes I find to be very impactful in this franchise and I never hear very much about them:

THE WRATH of KHAN

When Uhura's switchboard is blasting its channels as the mayhem ensues during Khan's attack adds so much to the drama and believability of the whole thing. Then, when Kirk indicates to Uhura to open a hailing frequency so he can surrender, she says so quietly, almost pleading with sadness, "... Admiral." Nothing else said until Kirk's reprisal attack measures up, after that moment. It always chokes me up.

THE SEARCH for SPOCK

After Uhura handles Mister Adventure and is about to beam Kirk & Company to the Enterprise, when she tells him, "... Oh, and Admiral? All My Hopes ..." Then Kirk kind of adjusts his jacket, as if to say, "... here we go. We're really going to do this thing," as he dematerialises. You know, I've seen this movie so many times, because it's my favourite. Have I reached the hundred mark? I don't know ... but when Nichelle Nichols delivers that line with such concern and love it always touches my heart. None of Kirk's crew know why they're doing this, except that Sarek assures them it'll save Bones sanity and Spock's soul. But there's nothing factual to base ruining your career over, it's almost too far-fetched. They don't even know Spock's alive, yet and Uhura's emotional, "... All My Hopes" sends them off like that. It's really good ...
 
STV: TFF
Say what you will about the camp, I liked that not only did the main three decide to spend their off time together, but they grew a little as characters and hearing the arguing and joking made them more like real people. The camping scenes, Spcok and his line about how it must have been the marshmallows, and even the serious scenes together, such as witnessing McCoy's pain. I also liked Kirk little speech about cosmic thoughts.


It's been too long since I've seen STVI: TUC to comment.


ST: Generations
There are a number of good scnes in the film, from the very starting idea of still Christening ships with a bottle breaking on the hull, to the memorable little speech between Picard and Riker on the dark and destroyed Enterprise Bridge. Good inbetween scenes include: Picard's pain over what happened and finally using Troi in good proper use in a TNG film, a very short but dramatic moment when Scotty comments on how little people he was able to safely beam out, Soran's comments on time beign a predator, the battle between the Enterprise and the Bird-of-Prey, the Nexus sweeping across the planet (combined with the music) and swallowing up Picard and Soran and the subsequent destruction; and despite how poorly executed it was, Data finding his cat amongst the wreckage. Personally that whole wreckage search and finding scenes were not that well written and done.


ST: FC
Hard to pick from, considering how bad it was. But I can come up with two: Data admitting how long he was tempted, and finally the closing scene -- 'cause then I knew it was over.

ST: Insurrection
This is kind of hard considering this was a bad film, too.

I liked the idea of Geordi seeing a sunset for the first time with his new eyes (though not really that well executed, aside from the scoring). Yikes, I think that's it.


ST: Nemesis
NONE.


Thus concludes the films.
 
The Enterprise crashing and the planet getting torn apart in Generations, especially as it rips through the saucer section.

The number one scene in all of the movies for me is Lily's confrontation with Picard in the conference room on the E. Such fine acting and wonderful dialogue from both.
 
Uhura's sexy dance in TFF.

No...

I'd have to go with Spock & Kirk after the briefing at starfleet command in TUC. And the final scene as kirk does his homage to Peter Pan in defiance of Star Fleets orders to go in to be decommissioned.

And then the scene with Picard and Lily in the briefing room in FC as well.
 
I love the scene in TSFS where the crew watches the Enterprise fall from orbit and burn up. Absolutely beautiful.
 
The films are awash with classy scenes.
  • Spock's death in TWOK. Cool scene.
  • Kirk chokes up at Spock's funeral. Cool scene.
  • In TSFS Kirk gives the go ahead to steal Enterprise after his unsuccessful discussion with Admiral Killjoy. Sparkly scene.
  • Scott, Sulu, Chekov ask for their orders just before they make off with the ship. Cool scene.
  • Kirk stumbles and then recovers his determination to act after his son is killed. Superb stuff.
  • Yes, McCoy and Kirk reflecting as the Enterprise disintegrates across the sky. Cool scene.
  • At the end of TVH, Sarek has a Vulcan heart to heart with his boy. Cool scene.
  • The Yosemite park scenes are good in V
  • Sybok exploring some of the pain that has haunted McCoy and Spock and Kirk's trenchant attachment to his pain. Excellent stuff.
  • The scene were he says he was wrong that "men like us have no family".
  • In TUC, Spock and Kirk reminisce towards the end of the film about being old and obsolete.
  • The farewell scene was very well done.
