Best Kings X album?

voggmo

Commodore
A friend of mine raves about em. Only heard 1 track of theirs so far. Do they have a standout album? I don't wanna buy 5 of em, just 1 or 2 of their best.

Pick up their Self titled one first, and I'm gonna take a wild guess and say the track you heard was "The World Around Me"?

He probably heard Black Flag from that album. I love King's X. Perhaps my second favorite band

I would say that Dogman or Tapehead are my favorite.

Most people say "Gretchen Goes to Nebraska" is the best.

Here's my ranking at the moment:

Dogman: the old KX sound with a bit grunge in the mix. every song is great
TapeHead: the same raw sound of Dogman.
Gretchen: The classic KX record
Faith Hope Love: It's Love might have been what you heard as well. A really good followup to Gretchen
Manic Moonlight. Awesome. Vegetable may be my favorite song by them
King's X self Titled.. pretty good, slightly overcooked but all the songs are good or pretty good.
Ear Candy.. a standout recording featuring "Someday" and "Looking for Love"
Out of the Silent Planet: a VERY awesome debut record.. featuring "Goldlox" and "King"
Black Like Sunday: a new recording of the pre-King's X stuff. many of my friends like this one best.
Ogre tones and XV.. iXV is the new one, just came out. I only heard a little bit..its ok. Ogre tones isnt bad,
Welcome Home Mr Bulbous.. cool but very odd

If you have any KX questions just drop me a line or ask right here. I've seen them 8 times

If I had to pick just one favorite King's X album, it would have to be Dogman (1994), just because it's got some of their coolest and heaviest riffs. Fool You is just a fantastic song, and Complain has got some seriously witty lyrics.

After that I would put Gretchen Goes To Nebraska (1989) and Faith Hope Love (1990) neck-and-neck for second and third place. I also particularly like Ear Candy (1996), Black Like Sunday (2003) and Ogre Tones (2005). I actually haven't heard the brand-new XV yet, but I will correct that situation as soon as I possibly can!

There are also other scattered songs throughout their catalogue that I have a fondness for, like Shot Of Love, Everybody Knows A Little Bit Of Something, The Burning Down, I'll Never Get Tired Of You, Lost In Germany, She's Gone Away, Scared, Ocean, Little Bit Of Soul, False Alarm, Believe, Get Away, and many more...

Ah thanks.

I liked that album but I dpn't listen to it much. My favorites are Bebop and the first five or six tracks. I liked the old rare version of "Freedom" than the version of that album (the original first first was killer). And I like the original "Goldilox" better. The last song I don't like much, and the sample they used for it was used better by Faith No More on a remix for "A Small Victory". In short, when I play Ogre Tones, I usually only play half of it.

OK, looks like Dogman, Gretchen, & the 1st one. Thanks.

The idea of Funk & metal being fused is interesting.

Voggmo,

Yeah they have a unique sound but each album has a slightly different shade to it. If you like the strange prosssive stuff then the first two or three work. BTW the self titled album is actually the fourth one. Out of the Silent Planet is actually the first album, but that tune is on Gretchen. For the funkier stuff, that's later, like Manic Moonlight, Black Like Sunday and the last two. It's even on Ear Candy.

Enjoy. and message me with any questions.

I've met them they are all cool guys.

Oh get TapeHead. It's a sweet record.

Faith, Hope and Love for me.
