‘Star Trek XI’ Begins Shooting Today

According to TrekMovie.com location shooting begins today in Southern California. The shooting is expected to last until March '08.

Maybe we will finally see some [leaked] pics of the cast and sets...

I can't begin to to state how overjoyed I am by this news!

The script is done, so unless they have to revise the script, no reason not to shoot, huh?

They just have to leave every line in the script exactly as it is now, and will just have to go back and reshoot anything that needs alteration.

I've rarely followed production of a movie this closely. Very good point about finally getting some leaked shots as there will actually be something to take pictures of now. I'm pretty confident too that the strike will have no effect as that's been the position of anyone relevant that was interviewed about the subject. It would have been a real shame that something like this throw a wrench in the works of the revival we've been waiting for for such a long time now. Could've been even longer, but I feel really good about the creative team handling this. Abrams' show LOST is big on philosophical subtext, so I think he can really put forth a movie that's more than a starship adventure and actually examines the human condition, which is what I expect from star trek. can't wait to hear more! cheers everybody!

and that may be a good thing. What I read coming from the writers, they seem to have the right outlook. If people are wont to mistrust JJ, here's at least something to hold onto, I guess.

I'm excited. Git R done, boys!

Good news, but it looks like I'm soon going to have to stop paying attention to Trek movie news. I hate spoilers! I wanted to know what actors were going to be in the cast, but besides that I want to way to see it in the theaters!!

"...and they're not gonna hold me down no more,
No they're not gonna change my mind..."

By the way....

unscripted 'ad-libs' by the actors ARE allowed to stay in the movie.

So the actors themselves can be reading the script, think of a better line and just pretend to ad lib it and the writer's guild can't stop its use.

'there are always technicalities', to paraphrase Spock.

The creation of entire new scenes or replacement scenes are not allowed of course.

I prefer the IAMD theme of course, but they could always use it for ST XII if it's a Romulan War movie. ;)

(seriously. I think IAMD's music would make a *perfect* Romulan War theme. Who's with me? :bolian: )

Yes! Thank you for the positive powerup. :D
I too am excited, and believe it or not, I am looking forward to this movie more than any other movie. For me the only problem is the date. December 25th? I will be home, with my family that day, and as much as I like Star Trek, there's no way I'm going to see a movie instead. Of course, the 26th is another matter entirely. :D

Any chance that the Southern California location is Vasquez Rocks? How cool would that be?

I can imagine that some fans may have driven (trekked) out to the area just in case. Scout it out like Area 51.
It was so damn cold in my tent last night, it's amazing that my laptop gets a signal here

The writers' guild can't stop anything. The only thing preventing the directors, producers and other staff from writing is that they don't want other unions to walk out.

The DGA states only one man can direct a film. So Robert Rodriguez quit the Guild so he an d Frank Miller could direct "Sin City." It's all a bunch of posturing. So, has Rodriquez' career ended? Ummm, no.
