Welcome to the 236th Trek BBS Fan Art Forum Challenge!

March’s theme, chosen by community vote here, is:

Today Is A Good Day to Die-o-rama
Release your inner child with a diorama demonstrating anything Trek - landscapes, ships, historical moments. Make it or draw it, if you prefer. Mixed media - use any material you want.

Diorama (def: "a model representing a scene with three-dimensional figures, either in miniature or as a large-scale museum exhibit.") There's lots of potential this month to imagine those events that we have only heard of in Trek history (great battles, the signing of the Federation charter, the launching of the new class of starship) or to reinterpret famous events we've seen in the shows on a different scale. And if creating a whole scene is a little too much for you to grapple with, you could, perhaps, draw up some plans for a diorama or show your rough sketches and ideas.

The Rules
  • the artwork you submit should be created during the month of the challenge
  • only one final image can be submitted (although it may contain multiple views)
  • your final entry should be posted in this thread (although dedicated WIP threads are appreciated)
The winner gets to wear the golden “Fan Art Challenge Winner” badge on their profile for the following month. And , if you have an idea for a Challenge Theme you can post it in April's suggestion thread (Coming Soon).

You have until Monday, 31 March to share your final entry here in this thread. As always, if you have any questions or if you need more time, use this thread to let us know. :)

Looking forward to seeing your art. Have fun! :bolian:

I may try to enter this. I'm assuming by "the artwork you submit should be created during the month of the challenge" you mean the diorama itself as I'm thinking of doing one for one of my 2D images.

Yay or nay?

That's an interesting question. My thoughts on that rule is that the final composition should be created in the month of the challenge, but may contain older elements as long as the final entry is unique.

So, could an existing diorama be used? I'd say yes, as long as there was a significant addition to the display created this month.

At the end of the day, if we're all transparent about how our artwork is created then we can leave it up to the voters to decide. Unless it's a truly egregious breaking of the rules... ;)

Nothing from me this month, but I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with :bolian:

Thankfully found some time this Sunday to work on an idea I had for this, which is a portal to witness the mighty koala smiling at you from Lower Decks. I know this isn’t terribly complex, but I still hope you’ll accept this as a diorama. :)

This is my entry:

And that’s to show the three-dimensionality of the diorama …

there are some things i am not happy with, mostly i was not sure what to do to show the destruction of the Woden and the Excalibur and what i tried to do did not work out so well. i was gonna use screencaps for the star players, but then i said "nah, gotta put in more effort than that" and it's been a long time since i drew a person from reference, and i don't think i did them justice. Daystrom's left eye area in particular... bah. idk. obviously i repurposed the Enterprise from my entry into last months' challenge, reworked it in several ways to; and i was already working on an Antares class, so that was convenient (i know it wasn't one until TOS-R, but...), so i finished it up and transferred it in. and the M5 unit is wholly new, and missing details, becasue of course i took the tack that this was a child's diorama for class so everything is simpler-than-true models... idk...

idk, this is for posting, not self critique :P

Great work, everyone! :bolian:

I'll be sitting this one out, but I'll leave the contest open for a few more days in case of more entries or extension requests.

Is anyone else working on anything? @The Lensman, did you find time for your diorama?
