Scrubs

Interesting! I really like the notion that this far into the run of a show, the creative people behind it are still into it enough to do an episode that departs that far from the norm (omitting cast members, no B plot), but nonetheless feels so iconic.

I didn't even notice the lack of the B story or other characters, that's how invested I was in the episode. Hopefully they hit that note (or close to it) the rest of the season.

I also agree most of the cast would leave when Braff, Reyes and Bill Lawrence. It will be interesting if it does come back to see who returns.

I wasn't a fan of the third episode, but I thought the fourth one was okay. I knew they were going to get JD and Elliot back together and this seemed to be the best way to go about it. I wasn't a fan of the Cox/Turk stuff though because it seemed to be going back to a subject that had already been covered on numerous occasions in the past.

My Last Words proved that they don't need the A/B/C plot dynamic, the characters are good enough that a single plot story will work. If they had focused on the JD/Elliot/Kelso story then this could have been a classic.

Once again there was a decent first episode followed by a fantastic second one.

Agreed. I was never one that much minded Scrubs's wackier take on things the past couple seasons, but I'll admit this season is shaping up to be one of the show's finest.

The second episode was great. I've never been much for the JD/Elliot will they/won't they stuff but for once they handled it in a really mature way.

Plus, I liked that they had a few stories cooking along with that one in this episode. I think JD and Elliot belong together but my one gripe is that whenever they attempt to get them together it sort of overwhelms the show and there's little room for anything else. I get the feeling they'll be taking a more even-handed approach to it this time around.

All the in jokes were fantastic in these two episodes. The free muffins for life, etc. Having seen every episode of the show was rewarding. I never thought JD and Elliot would get back together, but that was really a touching episode.

I agree, I just feel like the Turk/Cox story in this episode was going over material which had been done better in the past. Cox has trusted Gandhi for three years now, it just felt like they couldn't think of anything better for them to do so they put together this story again. It was such an important episode and I felt that story let it down.

Yeah, you're right. Can't argue with that. They've done the Cox/Turk thing. But, it was watchable. This show is about the characters after all. Maybe I'm more forgiving than the average Scrubs fan, but if they want to steal a plot point from four years ago and do it in a charming way, I'm cool with it.

I haven't laughed so much at two hours of television in a LONG time. All four of these episodes were just fabulous. :techman:

Good stuff. Looks like the ratings might help decide the 9th season issue, though. First 2 episodes did well, the 2nd pair, not so much...

agreed, sorta. I mean, I like the show a lot, and I want a strong season, but I don't really want it to do so well that they try and prop the corpse back up after the main cast has all left. Go out strong with the original group, and call it a wrap...

There is that small, insignificant, hardly noticeable program known as American Idol going up head-to-head against Scrubs.

News, possibly related to my post above: Scrubs is moving to a new timeslot.

ABC has established hour-long comedy blocks on Wednesdays and Thursday, announcing premiere dates for "In the Motherhood" and "Better Off Ted."

Each new show will be paired with an established comedy, as ABC has also moved "Scrubs" and "Samantha Who?" to new slots.

"Better Off Ted," a workplace comedy starring Jay Harrington, Portia de Rossi, Andrea Anders and Jonathan Slavin, will premiere on Wednesday, March 18 at 8:30 p.m. ET, following "Scrubs," which will be transplanted to Wednesday in the 8 p.m. time slot.

I still love Scrubs and think it's still going strong, but it seems to me that they've been recycling the same stories over and over for several years now. There's only so many "JD earns a modicum of respect from Cox" or "Kelso isn't really evil and Cox secretly respects him" or "JD and Elliot secretly love each other" stories you can do ;)
