Will Lower Decks ever promote Harry Kim?

Yeah, that would be stupid.

The youngest Admiral of any grade that we've ever seen was RADM Kirk in TMP with a 'time in service' of about twenty years, including several as a captain.

While Kim certainly should have been promoted when they got back, he's only got about a third of that time by then (so he might 'fast track' to lieutenant commander), there's only about another three-and-a-half years after that point to the end of LD s4 so promotion to substantive commander or captain-by-billet of a minor vessel at most but flag rank isn't credible.

No more credible that the other option IMO, but at least aligns with on-screen canon.

That won't stop people. Trek beefs can't be squashed. I can't say with 100% acceptance that someday on my death bed, my final words won't be "Janeway should have went to prison because of Tuvix" which will be even worst if I someday get married and have kids and they are sitting around me when I pass.

In "Endgame", in "Star Trek Online", and in "The Autobiography of Kathryn Janeway". Other literature, set immediately after VOY, only promotes him to lieutenant.

Garrett Wang said Harry "belongs" to Prodigy. He might have been set to return in S3 or later, seasons that probably won't happen. But given how long it would likely take to finalize PRO's demise and officially cut Harry loose... I don't see him being in LD S4 or S5.

Bad news: if we don't see Harry in PRO S2, I don't think we'll see him for a very long time. As in "Garrett Wang might die of old age first".

Good news: Because PRO is competently written, it is unlikely to continue either a childish vendetta or a running joke that its target audience wouldn't understand and pretty much wasn't funny anyway. Ergo, if Harry appears, he will most likely be a higher rank... I could see him as Voyager-A's first officer.

Unknown News: If Harry doesn't return in PRO, he can only return in LD; no other show in the 24th century exists. And yes, if the LD writers think they can get a joke from it, Harry could return as an ensign. However, given that the LD ensigns were promoted the Voyager episode, that might be a subtle shot at VOY, i.e. "we're the parody Trek, but even we promoted our ensigns". If that be the case, then it's unlikely they would participate in an action they just expressed contempt for.

I wasn't arguing the legal ins-and-outs of his appearance, only that there are still theoretical avenues down the road other than Lower Decks if the character does become available.

Oh, indubitably. The question is, do they want to? I mean, he's supposed to appear on Picard as a captain... scrapped. He's supposed to appear on Prodigy... canceled. Lower Decks is still out there... blocked. Convenient, isn't it?

Why do people keep saying Harry was "assigned" to Prodigy? He's never actually appeared on the show, has he?

I mean, if Tom Paris can appear on LD, why can't Harry? Paramount owns the whole thing, any show should be able to use whatever character they want.
