What games are you playing currently?

I presume the game logic runs on their original engine and the graphics (possible also physics and other stuff) are done in UE5. I believe that's how Bluepoint Games did the Demon's Souls remaster/remake as well. It makes the development easier (because you don't have to re-do the game logic). It does make the game a bit more demanding on the CPU though.
Makes sense… Bethesda has never had an issue with taxing the hell out of your CPU. IIRC, Oblivion introduced Radiant AI and it’s still a major reason why Beth games are better at open worlds than so many others. Unreal looks good but Creation Engine in all it’s janky glory is still so utterly perfect for the type of open world game Bethesda puts out.

TBH, I was worried about Unreal being used at all because it has come to mean cookie cutter to me. Demon’s Souls and Oblivion though show that it can be used for something more creative than just making a photo realistic game without soul, at least in part.

^ I don't believe Demon's Souls (the PS5 remake) was made in UE. I think Bluepoint Games used their own tech for the game.

Bluepoint did a great job with it but that kinda makes me like Unreal Engine even less. I know a lot of that is on the devs using the engine rather than the engine itself but it’s come to symbolize great looking mediocrity to me.

I'm kind of tempted by the Oblivion remake\remaster, but I basically had two problems with the original

1 - everything is scaled so closely to your level, you lose any sense of becoming more powerful.
2 - felt like very generic fantasy compared to the alien, exotic weirdness of Morrowind.

If point 1 is addressed I might go for it.

They changed the leveling system. It's in-between Oblivion and Skyrim. There's also mods already up now that we've all realized the Creation Engine is still there. Also, I closed an Oblivion gate last night and it didn't annoy me nearly as much as the OG game did. I hated doing the gates back in the day. I don't know if that will stay true for future gates but there's that.

And yeah Morrowind will always stand alone in terms of how different it truly was in every way, especially for the time frame. Oblivion takes place in the heart of the Empire so it's always going to be the most generic in terms of standard fantasy setting. Between, Morrowind, Skyrim and Oblivion, Oblivion is my least favorite but re-visiting it has been a blast so far.

If you have gamepass it's free.

I got to the very end of Forspoken and chose the bad ending that takes you back to New York. That isn't really a game changer because when you restart the game you are back at that moment where you were given the choice to go back home or to stay and defend Athia. I ended up doing the right thing and there's so much still left to do after the main story.

It is a very fun game once you get the hang of the 3 spell wheels and how to use them properly which does take time I fluffed up quite a bit with that. I normally get bored with these fantasy type games I played The Elder Scrolls Skyrim, the one people seem to like the most but only lasted a few hours after which I deleted it and never went back.

I'm going to stick with this one for a while and do as much side content as I can.

Shame it has no NG+ that would have been very fun.

I need to get on with playing through the original. I spent ages in a corner shop looking at all the fake brands, it was like shopping at Aldi:lol:

What did you think about South of Midnight? It looks and sounds great from the trailers.
I liked the story and the art if quite something. Plus the music is amazing. However the combat (and the platforming) are mediocre at best. So if you care more about gameplay, I suggest you avoid it. If not, give it a try, it's on Game Pass.

I've seen that for sale a few times on GOG what's the game like is it first person, third person, open world etc?
It's a third person RPG with turn-based combat. The world is quite linear and restricted (at least in the first two hours).

Ok, I think Venetica might have gotten bugged for me. I'm in Africa and the first part with the battle between the Princess is easy enough. In the Twilight Realm though, I do it up to the point where she comes down and I attack her and she drops the Spike and Scale, and upon looking it up, you're supposed to use that to deflect her beam. Only problem is, I can't pick it up. Nothing happens when I click the button to pick it up. This is crucial as it's the only way of beating her and proceeding to the rest of the game.

I have no info on how to fix that but I think it is a known bug

Not sure if this will be helpful but here's a playthrough guide which covers this
