Unbelievable!!!!! A New Kind of Trek

I'm disappointed. I thought the "Unbelievable!!!!!" new Star Trek would be Star Trek with actors actually recorded in Space. The most realistic Star Trek yet.

Having never heard of it before, just watched a trailer for this, and my god, it looks all kinds of shit.

I’m sure that after this, none of those actors will ever appear in an official Star Trek production ever again.

It makes me kind of sad seeing Trek alumni lowering themselves to appear in trash such as this. They weren’t all among the show’s better actors, but I saw Nana Visitor in the trailer and thought man, the woman is one of the most talented actors who ever appeared on Trek. I know it’s hard for women over a certain age to get decent roles in Hollywood, but she deserves so much better than this.

Yeah, I haven't seen the film, but from what I understand, these are mostly short cameos filmed over the course of several years, and I doubt any of the cameos were given a script to approve. The three leads (Tim Russ, Garrett Wang, Chase Masterson) maybe should've asked a few more questions, but from what I understand, they were all made to understand that it was a stupid, irreverent comedy movie, so saying stupid things for a quick buck doesn't hurt anyone.

And really, this seems to be just one guy's passion project. He spent probably over a decade (filming took place between 2012 and 2016, I see) hustling and bustling to get this made, cast, written, and produced. I don't know if he's that big of a Star Trek fan or just settled on the gimmick early on of focusing on Star Trek actors (42 of them) primarily, but it did make it more of a selling point than just another movie with random cameos or a movie with complete unknowns. I have no idea how he can recoup the costs he must've spent, even if, as I understand it, he spent 99% of the money on actors and everything else was done by him, his wife, and with the aide of stuff he had lying around his house.

The fact that it was actually released, four years after the premiere (in Grauman's Theatre!), is a testament to this man's behind-the-scenes work ethic. It's a shame it doesn't appear to have shown up onscreen.
