TREKS' best music

Aside from the theme songs, what Star Trek music do like the most. Here are a few of my choices..

The SPOCK/Blond Chic music from This Side Of Paradise. They play it later on for others, and maybe before this episode I don't know, but that little violin clip always gets me teary eyed..

The music from the Visitor. Very haunting melody, and so GREAT they brought it back when Cassidy visited him in the temple at during WHAT YOU LEAVE BE HIND

The fight music between SPOCK and KIRK in Amok TIme..classic!!!

And, yes, Picard's flute song from Inner Light? Or was it the one where he fell in love with that science lady..I can't remember.

Oh..and some of the music played just before they cut to commerical during TOS was great. Especially as Kirk gives his 'oh shit' look before the end of each scene..

Sorry RICK BERMAN. But you had it wrong. MUSIC is very important to humans, and was one of the weaker aspects of later treks. The constant 'pad' music (thats what I call it) was just boring..

What are some of your choices

I liked Kirk/ Spock in Amok Time and TUC opening theme, but my absolute favorite music ever came from Nemesis. Specifically, I fell in love with the music before the big battle where it shows everyone on Enterprise getting ready for possibly the final, and most important battle. The music has me smiling from ear to ear everytime I hear it, but I was saddened when it wasn't on the soundtrack... speaking of, if any one has an mp3 of it they would like to post, pretty please?

I've always loved the music from the "Stealing the Enterprise" sequence from STIII, which is probably my favorite sequence from the movie.

I like everything mentioned so far (and agree about the horribly bland musical wallpaper in later Treks).

I also love the twangy alien music underscoring the Talosians in "The Cage" and "The Menagerie" (and reused a lot).

I know a lot of people don't like the more contemporary music from Star Trek IV, but I always get a kick out of the hospital chase music, climaxing with the beaming to the park.

I love the soundtracks for The Undiscovered Country, TMP, and First Contact. I really can't think of any music from the shows that really sticks out in my mind though.

TOS TV Series:
--------------
The 'spinning cube' and "Fesarius approach' music from Corbomite Manuever

All the 'Vulcan' themed music from Amok Time (and re-used in other episodes after).

The 'spy sneaking around' and Klingon/Enterprise space battle music from Elan of Troyious.

I always thought Ron Jones' work on TNG, especially in 'The Best of Both Worlds' was top-notch, especially compared to the sonic wallpaper that would be mandated after he was fired.

Each film has a distinct and interesting score, in my opinion. Goldsmith's TMP score is a masterpiece, but I find his work in the subsequent four films he scored to be highly underrated.

And I always enjoyed the music in the DS9 episode, 'The Siege of AR-558.'

Agreed.

Agreed.

It's from "The Inner Light", but is also heard in the second episode, "Lessons."

I also submit the music Sol Kaplan did for "The Doomsday Machine", Jerry Goldsmith's score for TMP, and Jay Chattaway's score for "Tin Man".

My favourite is Goldsmith's dark, massive score for TMP.

Most of the music from TOS is golden to me.

24th century Trek in general had very boring, bland music. Berman was a fool to 'turn down' the music on those shows. Some Enterprise episodes had great music though. I'm thinking "Canamar", "Regenerations" and "Judgment" from season 2, and a lot of s3 and s4 episodes.

The famous Fight Music from TOS, the theme from The Doomsday Machine, the soundtracks for TMP, TWOK, TUC, Generations and First Contact.

The original had some classic recurring music. The vulcan battle theme, the music they play whenever Kirk is on a planet thinking happy thoughts, the finnigan chase and the humorous Bagpipe music all come to mind. Next Generation had the classic Picard flute music, and I thought the music from 'The Best Of Both Worlds' was indeed worthy of a CD release. For Deep space Nine, off hand, I can only recall the music from The Visitor, which should be enough, it was pretty damned good. I don't remember anything overly memorable from Voyager, though the theme music was very good. aside from Archer's recurring theme, nothing special comes to mind for Enterprise either; The less said about the theme song, the better. Basically all the incidental music through out the different shows did a pretty good job of setting the mood and adding atmosphere. Sure it got a bit indistinguishable over the years, but that's still not bad for twenty eight seasons of music.

Im with you JD. I love UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY's opening theme...very haunting...

The whole score for TUC is excellent. The mood of the film is set from the moment the music starts.

The re-release of TMP for the 20th Anniversary is fantastic.

I love what James Horner did for Trek. I love the music from TWOK and TSFS.

I love the openning theme for TVH.

I love the openning Yosemite music cue from TFF.

TUC has some fun music. GEN has its moments

FC Vulcan greeting music is grand.

ENT was quite orchestral, and used music as both underscore and punctuation for scenes more than, say, DS9 (which is what I'm watching now). The score for Silent Enemy is spooky (the chase through the dark ship scene has these "tapping footsteps" that are quite chilling), the Mirror Universe theme is wonderfully martial, and the heartbreaking score for Similitude won an Emmy.

One of the way TOS feels dated to me is the obviousness of the music: here are flutes - feel silly! here are violins - feel romantic!

I heard the song from TNG's The Inner Light and thought, gosh, that's pretty, but I don't really remember ANY music from the series.

I loved Doomsday Machine, Corbomite Maneuver and the majastic music from Who Mourns for Adonais. Where can I find that? I had Doomsday Machine.

I love all of TMP and most of TWOK and TSFS. TUC is good and NEM is too.

Some of the best music IMO:

The fight music from "Amok Time" (naturally! :p)
The music in TMP when Kirk and Scotty see the newly-refitted Enterprise, and when it leaves drydock.
The flute instrumental from "The Inner Light"
The fight scene in Nemesis and the end theme of that film.

"Best" is quite relative so I'll go with my favorite music - which I also happen to consider the best :p

TUC is easily my favorite Trek movie score. It fits the movie perfectly IMHO and coneys the notion of major events unfolding. The suite is one of my favorite individual pieces.

From the tv shows, my favorite music is from DS9's later season. The Visitor is probably the most prominent example. I think you really can't do it much better than here. The music is just spot on throughout IMHO and truly communicates the intimate and tragic nature of what's happening to one Jake Sisko and his father.
I also loved the music in The Siege of AR-558 as well much of what was introduced for the Dominion in S5, I think. This appears, for example, when the Dominion takes over DS9.

I always wonder what Trek and especially DS9 would have been like had they had more freedom with the music. On DS9, I can clearly see that the improvement in the music had an effect on my liking of the show. I love season 1 - 3 but I think the stronger (if not much) use of music from S4 onward just lifted those seasons that bit higher for me (plus they'd hit their stride in many other ways as well but I digress).

The point is, I look at / listen to some of the amazing stuff they've been doing with the music on nuBSG ans just wish they'd been given similar creative freedom for Trek.
