Say what you will about the somewhat silly Ferengi episodes, but I did get a kick out of seeing Quark's mother hook up with the Nagus. They did appear to genuinely care about one another. Plus, seeing the leader of a misogynistic race become smitten by an independent, intelligent, courageous female was pure gold-pressed latinum.

Saving Janeway/Chakotay, the romantic relationship for Chakotay that actually made some sense, unlike the hastily thrown together out of nowhere thing with Seven at the end of the series. Mulgrew and Beltran had good chemistry, and Janeway and Chakotay seemed right for each other. I understand why the writers chose to not let it develop, but I still think it was a good pairing.

The "Sisko/Jennifer" relationship was so strong that Ben was haunted for years by her loss. The relationship produced a nice, ordinary, happy, well-balanced child in Jake. It was the kind of relationship that you expect to last for ever.

Yup. As much as "Captain's Holiday" was less exciting than what's said on the tin, Vash proved to be interesting enough to warrant not only a return in a somewhat underrated sequel in "Q-Pid"*, there's also a neat way to get her into the spinoff show "Deep Space Nine" via the wonderfulness of Q.

(Q made Worf a not-merry man and Geordi proved it)


Unfortunately, all the DS9 clips with "Q-Less" involve Q and I was aiming for one particular scene with Vash as it showcased what the writers COULD do in DS9 that they could not in TNG and it's a great scene in itself. A shame Q didn't come back, unless he tweaked something behind the scenes - but if he had, then to say "Bazinga!" at the end would have robbed a lot of content of dramatic power so I'm glad nobody thought of doing that, such as (here it comes) Q conjuring up the Dominion as easily as he conjured up the alien whom his kid hurt and thus prompting Aunt Kathy to take the brunt of punishment... but that's another story.


* If nothing else, at least the wordplay is clever

I was so into Gray and Adira, and pissed when they cut it off short.

After all they did to bring him back to life, they really should have just kept Gray on the ship. We didn't need to see him every week, he could have just popped in here and there. Trek has had such success with lovely relationships where one half was mostly off-screen (Keiko/Miles, Sisko/Kasidy).

Since there's no "Q/Aunt Kathy" to save,

is next.

Now, I'm not sure what inspired the idea of them going at it in the first place, apart from a parallel universe incident involving Worf out of the blue that our-universe Troi all of a sudden now has an inclination to try, but it's still not entirely un-believable.

But here's the problem: TNG somehow managed to do even less with them than, to compare, what STV-TFF did with Uhura/Scotty within the span of their 106-minute film! And even then, TFF's few minutes of them was almost more interesting.

Thankfully, Worf went to DS9 where, in true Klingon fashion (or not), or at least if this were the board game "Clue", he forgets he ever did it with Troi in the Library with a candlestick or garden shears or something and got it on with Dax instead, where we actually and finally DO get stuff of substance. If nothing else, while he's in the Library, he can eat a few good books there afterward...

Although the trajectory of their relationship was somewhat predictable, Burnham and Book had a really nice arc throughout several seasons. The strong friendship that they shared really anchored their romantic relationship. They were not just a couple; they were an unstoppable team. It was really satisfying to see where and how they ended up in the conclusion.

So, I'm saving Burnham & Book (& Grudge).

Maybe I forgot them because I was so into Jurati/Rios, who I will now save. Was I pissed when season 2 dropped this thread! They had incredible chemistry!

Modern Trek really has a lot of incredible romance setup that then gets fumbled. I hadn't realized till just now that's practically a signature of this era. For me, relationships that burst out of the gate strong and then lost it would include: Burnham/Tyler, Culber/Stamets, Adira/Gray, Jurati/Rios, Seven/Raffi, Laris/Zhaban, Mariner/Jennifer (until they kind of patched them up with a new ending)...

Though I guess Burnham/Book, Saru/T'Rina, Shaxs/T'Ana, and the Prodigy characters delivered consistently.
